Kung Fu and life

Jun 09, 2008 22:28

I have been rather introspective lately. At some point I varied again from the path I chose for my life. I found comfort and wisdom in two movies I watched recently. I watched The Forbidden Kingdom a few days ago.

Long Story and too much about me )

Thich Naht Hanh said it as "If you are capable of living deeply one moment of your life, you can learn to live the same way all other moments of your life."

This was a good post.

I intended that post to be "hey Kung Fu Panda was awesome." Once I started typing a lot of stuff poured out though.

I think the theme comes out so often because its both true and incredibly difficult. To sweep the floor without dreaming of something you'd rather do is harder than climbing a mountain without thinking about falling. I'm like everybody else, I don't want to find splendor in the mundane, I want to find it in the splendid. I have to let go of that though and maybe I never will.

Ask any teacher... m_t_quill June 10 2008, 17:48:25 UTC
The difficult part of the lesson for you was to discover your distaste for causing pain and injury. The moves, the stances, the strikes... those you were hungry for and sought out and absorbed. Any teacher will tell you that the hard part of teaching is not in imparting information, especially the information that the student is interested in, but in imparting the information the student is NOT interested in, or in connecting the information into concepts and ideas. Maybe what you need, to learn more, or to be able to teach safely... is to help another teacher, learn to teach from him, and you will learn more about learning from the students. I know that I learned best any lesson that I was assigned to tutor someone in. Maybe the way to teach your children to fight, is to find a local self-defense class, and sign up ALL THREE OF YOU, them as students, and you as a teaching trainee, when the student is ready the teacher will appear, but when the Teacher is ready the student will arrive. You may be able to share this part of your life ( ... )

Haven't seen kung fu panda. but no I will. chances are it will not unlock a really neat introspection of my true self. It interesting to see what makes people have them. Oh by the way will we ever see ya on Saturdays game? I figure your just being the good husband and father and spending the weekend with your family like you should.
