At this very moment, things are spiraling out of control in Iran. Reading about it it was expected to be a close Mousavi win. Very close, there was a decent chance of it going to a runoff election.

All Ahmadenijad would have had to do was arrange for a narrow runoff win for himself. While this might have been a little surprising, it would be far less obvious that it was a fixed election. The election sounds like it was close enough that a sudden turnaround on this scale wouldn't be completely implausible.

But no, he has to have a historic landslide declared when only 19% of the vote was counted.
