Eventually, I started to write short stories in English about visiting places of interest located near Moscow. My goal is to improve my writing skills. I’ll try to use long complicated sentences and non-usual (for me) words. Your comments will be highly appreciated!
Some years ago I found information about captivating game with name GeoCaching (site
www.geocaching.su). The main idea of the game:
- Person, who wants to be the owner of the cache, has to choose special place. It can be historic place, place of natural beauty, place of catastrophe, abandoned lot (military or industrial). Then he needs to create a cache with some artifacts. And finally cache owner creates an article on web site, where he or she writes why this place is exciting and how other people can find the cache. Usually description contains GPS coordinates of certain point and a legend how to reach the cache.
- People, who want to find a hidden treasure, select a desired cache and try to find it
- After discovery of the hiding place game participants take one artifact from the cache away and place new one into it.
We are using this game in light version - we prefer to visit interesting places and don’t waste time for looking for a cache. May be in the future we will change our minds.
In summer 2012 we have visited 2 locations: central aviation museum in Monino and 3 awesome places near Pereslavl-Zalesskiy.
Central aviation museum
Created in 1958, museum has the largest collection of airplanes and helicopters in Russia and, may be, even in the whole word. Visitors can see famous TU-144 - first civil supersonic plane in the world, a child of the cold war - incredible T-4 (Blinder according to NATO classification) and many other interesting vehicles designed by Russian constructors.
Pereslavl-Zalesskiy
Pereslavl-Zalesskiy is a town located at the north-east from Moscow (distance is about 140 km), on the highway “Kholmogory” Moscow-Archangelsk on the bank of Plescheevo lake. The town is included to the Golden Ring of Russia. It was established in 1152 and was a part of Rostov-Suzdal principality. In 1220 prince Alexander Nevskiy, the person who won a victory over German knights in 1242, was born in it.
The town took an active part in the life of the Russian since Middle ages.
Now it is small provincial town with picturesque churches, ancient history and scenic views.
There are many places to visit around the town. Unfortunately, we were limited by one day and 2 small children. So, we have chosen 3 places:
- Peter the Great’s botik museum
- Narrow-gauge railway museum
- Russian fairy-tales museum
Details will be at soon!
