[for Dave]

Saturdays had a fairly simple routine for Teyla. Wake up, run, meditation. Not all that different than her usual day to day routine, but on Saturdays she took a bit more time with each thing. She would run the length of the beach, half around the island, she was sure of it. It would take the better part of an hour from when she left Atlantis ( Read more... )

He wasn't sure what to expect, really. All those months in Toronto, before returning to Fionavar, he'd forced his body into shape. Laps, pull ups, hours in the gym. They'd known they'd be walking back into a war. They'd known that, and so he prepared.

Now, he has no idea what to expect. The island didn't seem to want battles from him, which left him a little lost. Still, Teyla was in as good or better shape than him and, honestly, he was intimidated.

Which was probably smart.

"Hi," he said, after lingering for a moment, watching her warily. He dropped a duffel bag with a change of clothes down beside him, eying those sticks. After a moment, he rumbled, "Thought you were gonna have me pumping weights?"

Teyla had smiled when she saw him enter the clearing, flipping a stick in her hand out of habit. When he spoke, her smile turned sly, and she remembered her first time she had shown John bantos, and how he had discounted the effectiveness of the two short sticks.

"I never said what I would have you doing," her smile turned sly, her eyes amused, "you should not make assumptions."

Grabbing a second set of sticks, she tossed them to him, "It is called Bantos. I thought you might enjoy it."

The look and her tone made him blush awkwardly and duck his head. There isn't a flip reply to that, but he half opens his mouth, only to close it again, wordlessly. He shrugged, a grin half pulling at his mouth.

"I'll try to restrain myself," he muttered, quietly. "Sticks?" he said, catching them when she tossed them. "....just sticks?"

Exactly like John, she thought to herself. Even Ronon had appreciated that anything could be a weapon, and that you should be able to work with whatever you were given. "Just sticks."

Teyla didn't give him a chance to prepare himself before she attacked. Her sticks spinning, even at his height it only took her a moment to have one against his neck, the other behind her, waiting and ready.
