Day of the Moon

What the fuck was that?

I have no idea what happened. None. At all. I think not everything's been resolved yet, but. I don't even know what was resolved. I have no idea what was supposed to be resolved. I really, really hate Moffat's superplots. They make me feel like I'm constantly watching the second part of a trilogy--no proper beginning, no real ending; just a sequence of seemingly unrelated events that may or may not eventually lead to a resolve. Except that with most trilogies I've watched, the resolve in the end at least makes sense. Moffat's resolves have a tendency to be quite random and incomprehensible.

The Silents. How are they not exactly like the Weeping Angels? They even randomly develop additional qualities when the plot demands it. First, they just make you forget that you saw them. Then, SUDDENLY, they plant ideas in your head. Why wasn't that foreshadowed? Or at least vaguely hinted at? It would have been easy. That woman in the bathroom that got exploded, for example. If the Silent had just told her to leave, it could have saved itself the trouble of having to kill her. And it would have clued the audience in on the fact that there's more to the Silents than just creepy shadow-lurking.

(Oh, and that prison they were building for the Doctor? THAT TOTALLY DIDN'T REMIND ME OF THE PANDORICA. Not at all. Moffat, come up with something new, okay?)

I hated, hated what the Doctor did to the Silents. THIS IS NOT WHAT THE DOCTOR DOES. He told the human race to commit genocide. He used the moon landing to tell the human race to commit genocide. What. The. FUCK. Even Nine would have had scruples about doing that. What happened to that show that was on air a couple of years back, the one that was all about how big and wonderful and exciting and full of life the universe is, and about how all life should be treasured and valued because it's beautiful? Augh. I wonder if we're ever going to get aliens who aren't just PLAIN EVIL.

And while I liked River in the last episode, I thought she was back to plot-device-in-a-sexy-dress in this episode. Why the hell was she wearing a dress and heels while exploring a derelict house? And why the fuck would they draw those marks on their faces? Moffat, do you know how hard it is to paint anything on your face without a mirror? 'course not. Can't imagine he's ever experimented with make-up.

Gah. The longer I talk about this episode, the angrier it makes me. So I'll stop now. I may have to go and watch some RTD Who. Or possibly Firefly. I watched the pilot earlier; dunno what I think yet. I'll let you guys know once I've seen more.

(And yes, Canton was actually supposed to be gay. Thanks for that, Moffat. Although, considering that I don't want anything I like or care about associated with a show that communicates the sort of messages that tonight's episode communicated, I'm not sure if I'm actually happy about the reference.)

(Oh. And the ending? Yeah, no idea. I don't even want to go there.)
