I use a paraffin/gasoline mixture. They only actually burn for five to ten minutes at a time. The larger ones were self-consuming but the last few can be, and have been, relit as often as possible.
Yeah, paraffin is actually just that, candle wax. I got the idea while talking to my dad about my sculptures. Initially I was using newspaper, a lot of newspaper, wired or stapled onto a wood frame, but that took days to prepare for about a half hour burn. So I was looking everywhere for a more time efficient way to sculpt with fire. I tried a whole bunch of really hokey stuff but eventually my dad mentioned that he thought wax might dissolve in gasoline, which it does, over the course of about a month. So, I fiddled around with different ways to mix the two, and now I can get a mix with kind of a peanut butter consistency in about four hours. Essentially it works the same as a candle except a whole lot faster; the wax sticks to most things and slows down the fuel burn.
