Super Bowl Confession

So, I want to root for the Steelers, I really do. I've got my World Series, so I'm no longer desperately jealous. And the Cardinals winning the Super Bowl I feel would just illegitimize modern football. Plus, we all know I'm "buddies" with James Farrior ( Read more... )

When I looked at the two situations, it seemed to me that Harrison's was a "lost my temper/heat of the moment" thing. He did therapy, and I'm left with the distinct sense that his second strike will be his last.

Cedric Wilson drove around in his car for an hour looking for his girlfriend, found her, and beat her up. It was pretty much premeditated. It was also his second time.

The Rooneys seem to allow for one mistake but they seem to hold that two mistakes makes a pattern and you're done.

I would agree with you, except for two points. First and foremost, Rooney didn't say that - he said "What Jimmy Harrison was doing and how the incident occured, what he was trying to do was really well worth it. He was doing something that was good, wanted to take his son to get baptized where he lived and things like that. She said she didn't want to do it." I mean, those comments are pretty shockingly awful.

The other issue is a bit more personal. Sports Chuck coached the girl on the Pittsburgh Passion, and this was definitely not an isolated incident (note this was before this past summer, so I can't comment on if things have changed). Now, she never spoke up to authorities, so I can't blame the team for what hasn't been reported, but it doesn't stop my general distaste for the man.

I dunno. Dan Rooney's comment just sounds like a flubbed statement, and him trying to preempt anyone challenging his own religiousity. I'm not saying it was okay, but I think it was more incompetence with a bad situation rather than a deliberate attempt to gloss something over. I think he was saying "Yeah, it was wrong but... you know... Jesus is good, right? I got nothin'"

As far as the rest, I mean, you may know more than I do about the situation, so any distaste you have for him is fair, based on what you know.

I will say that he's only 1/55th of the team. :)

You are probably right there, but I also feel like it is too important of the statement to mess up. I mean, there were legitimate points you could really bring to the table there, and you have to know that question is coming. Not being properly prepared for the question gives the sense that the decision was more along the lines of "Wilson is a 4th string receiver, Harrison team defensive MVP" rather than a carefully thought out deliberation, even if it really was one.

You are right though, he is only 1/55th of the team, and I'm sure there are Cardinals players who are worse (like the possibility of Warner renegging on getting his kids a puppy if he doesn't win the Super Bowl). Maybe I'll root for a Stiller win, but Harrison to be humiliatingly bad. Too bad he's so damn good.

I won't be disappointed if the Cardinals win cuz then I'd feel like the Eagles maybe could have beaten the Steelers...if they hadn't lost to the Cardinals...maybe...

either way...I'm very scared to be in Pittsburgh at all tomorrow.

Watch for me! They may show a video of my friends and I singing!
