What Ifs and Wishes

She’s rarely even snapped at Morpheus. How could she-he’s Morpheus. But she screamed at him that night, after it was all over, after they were in Zion and alone and it hit her again that Switch and Apoc and Mouse and Dozer and…and he said that this was how it had to be and was always meant to be. And it all comes down to the prophecy and the Oracle and the One and all those things that it’s always about. It had to be. Has to be.

She doesn’t buy that. She won’t. And if she could go back and change it, she would, in a heartbeat, and to hell with the consequences.

But the problem here isn’t choice. It’s lack of choice. There isn’t one to make. What ifs and wishes are all. And those aren’t things she allows herself to indulge in thinking about for more than a moment at a time before pushing them away.
