Skate Houston videos

Hello all,

Absolutely no excuse for not posting or replying for a month, I've just been distracted by a lot of new activities -- handbells, choir, looking for a new job -- plus practicing for the competition.  I've gotten out of some of my good habits!  So as embarrassed as I am, I absolutely can't resist posting my free skate video from Skate ( Read more... )

You looked great! BXOs have nice form, none of that jerky break at the waist stuff most of us adults have. Your family is too cute; I love that they threw flowers.

Thank you, lovely Simone, I've missed you so! I think my nieces and nephews are the most adorable little people, like, ever. My sister and my nephew Aidan, who started skating when I did but have kind of dropped off the vine, were inspired and signed up for lessons again this week, so now I'll have some company, thank goodness.

In other news, I learned the waltz jump -- not from backward XOs, only from forward steps -- this week. But hey, it's something! I was pretty psyched.

Thanks Counselor, you're awesome! I'm glad the back XOs are okay; I worked on them like a mad cow for three solid weeks! I really do love my new handbell choir...I audited a bell class once about 10 years ago and have been wanting to do it again ever since. My sister's church has one, so I joined. I usually play E-flat 4 to F-sharp 4, on the base clef. Tons of fun!

Well done you! Very nice indeed.

I see you share the same fault as I have, though, of not getting your weight quite far enough into the circle on your back crossovers.... I can never get my weight far enough over my inside hip.

The video *would* have the close-up on my weak side! My CCW backward XOs, which are quite decent, were of course at the beginning of the program, on the far end of the rink, where you can't see a thing. :p

But the CW are actually a *lot* better than they used to be. That left foot just isn't thrilled to reaching into the circle...it likes to stay nice and stable, as it's the one I usuallys balance on.

How lovely to see you skate Lisa! And I love the flowers at the end :-D

And the music worked well too - was that the Hero's Wedding piece?

Thank you, dear Amanda, you're very kind! I know it was very, very babyish, but I truly and thoroughly enjoyed myself, and it warmed my heart more than I even expected to have the support of my family. I've watched the video many times just to feel their love. It was a happy day!

In the end, I went with the Variations on a Theme by Handel. I still think Hero's Wedding was the most beautiful of them all, but I try to really skate right on the beat of whatever music I use, and I could manage the backward XOs (we had to do 6 in both directions) on my good side, but it was a little too fast for the weaker one. Maybe when I get a little better! :-)

Aren't you generous! Hee hee. My Basic 6 program will be prettier! In Basic Skills competitions, you actually aren't *allowed* to do anything from a higher level. That means in this program, I couldn't do a full spiral, moving 3-turn, or even a T-stop!
