It should be simple, right? 500 words or less emphasizing description, for TS Chat.

But, but, but. The first piece I tried to write for this ended up being 2000 words. And my latest attempt has just sailed firmly past 500 with no realistic hope of being squinchable into the 500-word box ( Read more... )

I am dead jealous, actually, I have a concrete strength writer's block....

Ummmm, maybe a drabble of 100 words for each of the senses?

I'm away form home at the mo and can't get into my DW account (because I have forgotten the password!)
Can I suggest it's about thinking differently, for this particular exercise? Don't try to resolve anything, don't try to tell a full story. Think of it as a snapshot in time - only that scene, only that moment, and the sights and sounds and feelings of that moment are what build your 500 words. Cut out all sneaky extraneous elements that might turn out to be plot devices; great when you are really writing a story, not great when brevity and focus is what's needed. Just think about what is happening *that very moment*. :)
