Need to build a DIY drum machine or......

Ok. I am in dire need of a drum machine. Either I need to go out and buy one, but lack of funds prevent getting a one, or I need to build one. My synth has a drum engine built into it, but it's lacking a filter envelope function on the drums to make it sound decent. I tried using the drum machines off of Reason, but the MIDI timeing isn't exactly ( Read more... )

What are you using to bind Reason and your synth together? I assume you have ASIO drivers installed for your sound card?

I input notes with my keyboard, through Cubase to the synth. Cubase is sending start and stop messages to Reason via the ReWire interface. ASIO drivers would clear that up?

So the sound coming out of Reason's drum machine is routed out to your computer's sound card, correct? Then ASIO drivers would definitely help. I'm guessing the reason (hehe) they are out of sync is because Reason is using a DirectX sound driver. ASIO is specifically designed (by Steinberg) to skip pass the OS's software mixer(s) and deliver the audio (unchanged) directly to the hardware. Pro audio interfaces always come with ASIO drivers. However, most consumer/on-board audio cards, do not. If your sound card manufacturer does not have ASIO drivers then you get to play with . Its definitely better than DirectX drivers, but you'll probably need to play with the settings to figure out the lowest latency you can get without digital distortion from dropped bits.

FYI, I'm so sorry I never called you back. I'm just hanging out at home tonight if you want to drop
in.

No problem. I understand that there were other priorities you needed to take care of. ;p
