it's so true. i take comfort in those primal, natural scents, albeit in moderate doses. even driving down a country road with the smell of manure used to fertilize the fields is oddly pleasing to me.
sure beats febreeze and glade plug-ins, that's for sure.
i think some people are so scared and desperate for security that they'll accept what is known (i.e. the guy already in power) as opposed to the unknown (new guy, who in their minds, might screw things up even worse). they're all looking for a hero and giving the badge to the wrong person.

I do wonder, though, if there isn't more fear to go around in America than elsewhere. I suppose it has to do with having more; when you're not used to adversity, it casts more of a shadow than if it's been a constant companion.

and yes, again, you're right. i've said it before, but we're a young country and we've never experienced anything like this before....this kind of loss of innocence on our home soil. we always felt safe being separated by the ocean, and now that sense of safety has been taken away from us and we're still coming to terms with that. it's going to take time and re-evaluation, no doubt.

Haha, we have much less of an excuse over here. Sometimes I feel like comparing England to an elderly dowager who sees America as a blithe, nubile catch to make her feel like a maid of summer again.
