Ahhhh Herodotus. I did a year of Classics in first year at uni, and loved it. Herodotus was so full of crap, but funny. And seeing him in the context of his time, it all makes a kind of sense or is at least justified, so you've got this constant historical-psychology-and-reason with present-day ridicule. First you laugh, then you think, and then you go "ohhh right, I guess that made sense back then". It's brilliant. :D

Oh man that's what I love about you guys across the pond, you actually put stock by the classics. Er, the Classics, that is. Teehee I admit I was having a ball all by myself at four in the morning when I posted this, picking a Classic for my classic book. /easily amused

I know right, he's hilarious innit? Much more fun than old Thucydides. The thing is, he's not just a guy who tells funny anecdotes, he's got some pretty definite ideas buried under all those digressions. &hearts him

Well, I guess it's more directly relevant when you see remainders of it everywhere, what with inscriptions on buildings and statues and what-not. Also, growing up with a Latin teacher as a mother, you can't really avoid it! :D

He does - there was a reason for all the anecdotes. Which is cool because it makes them mean something as well as being funny and entertaining.

Also... Classic for a classic book. *lol* I hadn't copped onto that. :( Clever!

Lol. I just found out about the existence of that site because the alumni e-mail service informed me that one of my fellow '09ers started it and is now gaining further notoriety. @_@
