man, your brother sure picked the right place to be. i've seen footage of amsterdam after the final and the place was a mess. so many orange plastic cups, so much beer, so many people crying. which national side(s) and/or club side(s) does your brother support do you know?

Yeah, when it became clear that Spain was going to be in the final, we were all kind of hoping Spain would win (even though we were all actually supporting Holland; in my case, after Italy got knocked out), because it would've gotten crazy if they'd lost.

I'm not sure about clubs, but I think from among the national teams he supports Brazil. I know he was privately rooting for Holland in the final games, but it was definitely more awesome to be in the capital of the victorious World Cup nation.

haha wait what?

cool! brazil is a lot of people's 'second team', i've read that the viewing stats go way up whenever brazil is playing. even in places like paraguay and estonia and papa new guinea, more people tune in to see brazil than, say, germany.

i would've worried for your brother's safety if he was openly supporting oranje lol

ok, so. I can't really watch footie matches in general and I was out of the house during Barca's match anyway, and now I am going to ask questions about it because you are a better fangirl than I am. is Bojan really sucking this season? because I mean, I want him to do well, I like him, I think he's cute and he's a symbol of La Masia etc etc, but... just going off the results, it sounds like he's really sucking. and I feel like I need to brace myself if he's about to be consigned to the bench. >_>;;

he didn't play noticeably worse than anyone else, but he weren't exactly setting the place on fire either. the problem is he's a forward, it doesn't matter how well or badly he plays so long as he scores. the longer it is until he ends his goal drought, the less likely he is to ever establish himself as a first-team regular imo. i also don't think he fired any shots on target today? this is kind of worrying in a game where everybody except victor was taking shots on goal.

i dunno if i'd rather see him wither on the bench or sold to some second-division team in a second-tier league, it doesn't bear thinking about tbh. otoh victor used to be regarded as "that local lad who got lucky" by landing himself a team that was too good for him, but he's proved his critics wrong so hopefully bojan will too.

PRAYER CIRCLE FOR BB BOJAN

I just kind of worry, because he's been the senior team's baby for years, and he's getting old for it, you know? which is a terrible thing to say about a 20-year-old, but he's been kicking around since he was 17, I think, and meanwhile both Pedro and Biscuits have done a lot more to establish themselves as regulars. it's not like Pep hasn't given him chances this season, either. he just... hasn't been able to do much with them. =/ there's not much chance he'd be sent anywhere this year with the team so short, but being the adorable Catalan mascot isn't going to save him forever if he keeps not improving.

I would love if he could be the striker Victor-equivalent, though! go forth and prove yourself, bb!

AGREED

okay you're officially a more devoted football fan than me now. I don't own a BVB book, nor the movie they made about Germany '06. :D

I think the fandom is very different for those like you, though. Even between Germany and England there's a difference. We make far less fuss about individual players, unless they're injured. And okay, the Ballack thing. But no one really cares very much about them as people, they're players. Mostly all we care about is what they're good at and how good they're at it. :D England makes far more fuss about players' personal lives, as well. In Germany there's a bit, if you read the right tabloids, but overall I catch more of England's players' drama - despite only watching German TV and never reading tabloids. So yeah. Definitely the focus is different depending on where you are etc.

they made a movie about germany '06?? if i told you how many times i've listened to the lu-lu-lu-lukas podolski song you would disown me probably. XD

i quite adore the mannschaft. it's also easier to avoid media circuses around players' personal lives if they don't, you know, insist on sleeping with high-end hookers y'know? at this point i'd be hard-pressed to name a member of the england squad who hasn't been involved in a sex scandal. i don't know if this says more about my knowledge of english football or about the moral fibre of english footballers, but anyway.

eta i love ballack:
