i don't think it's an either-or kind of thing you know? i think pullman has muddied the waters a lot by coming out as a very vocal critic of c.s. lewis, and situating his books in an anti-narnian space. the difference between how he treats paradise lose and how he treats narnia is that he might disagree with milton - well duh, he's rewriting milton - but he respects milton and the grandeur and the scope of what he accomplished. he clearly doesn't respect lewis at all. people can be forgiven for reading some of pullman's articles and coming away with the idea that it's impossible to love both narnia and HDM. and it's frustrating bc narnia isn't just c.s. lewis evangelizing for a thousand plus pages; he's a good writer, whatever else he is; in fact i just finished till we have faces recently and oh my god. my heart broke for psyche's older sister in a way it never really broke for either will or lyra ( ... )

and pullman obviously. i don't actually hate him - like, at all. idk i think this post came off as very anti-pullman but i was focusing on the bits that bothered me, so.
i'm glad you liked good omens. i know a lot of people who did, and i can totally see what attracted them to it, but it's like the way if you're straight you can see how some girls are hot but you are not yourself actually attracted to them?
