She definitely lived her life the way she wanted to, from the sound of it. Good for her. There are a lot of people today who would chicken out of heading to the big city alone.

Yes, they would. And she was one of two children, at a time when you normally would stay home and take care of your parents. She didn't get married until she was 30, which was pretty 'old' for people then!
But I know she had a happy life with my dad and with us, and she's happy now, so that's all that matters.
