I will never be able to really understand how it feels to grow up in a another country. Studying English thouroughly, not to feed an interest of mine, but to be able to actually converse with people who are too lazy or busy to learn my tongue. Living in a house built out of scraps, having no job and no constant food/water source. Hating the U.S. ( Read more... )

See, here's the kicker:

None of them ever be able to understand how it feels to grow up in the US.

Btw, Canadians don't really have it easy. They have the double burden of (1) not living the the US, and (2) everyone looking at them as if they do live in the US.

They get taxed to death. :)

(2) the french aren't as mean to them when they vacation there

How do you know this? Keep in mind that I really have no idea how mean the Franks are, as I've never been there.

(3) they still have anime.

My lady, we all have anime!

I've had primary sources report #2 to me, tho it's still generalizing. It could just be a bunch of the shopkeepers in Paris who are mean, for all I know. But this only makes me wish I was french so I could get their perspective, too, you know?

Proud to be an American felsongs March 22 2004, 20:45:42 UTC
I am proud to be an American because we are so privileged with all of the resources we have and use. People who make me doubt that I should be proud are those who are ethnocentric and look down on other people from other countries. We are privileged in America, we are not better than anyone else. In COM 101, we di this exercise where we were put into two different groups and each group was a different civilization with different rules and social ranking systems. I was in the first group to go to a different civilization. When I went there, I did something that would be a complement in our culture, but in theirs it was an insult and I got a bad mark for that. After that I learned how to communicate with the other people and could get what I needed from them. The people from my group that came over with me all got kicked out right away because they didn't try to learn the language. You have to go with the flow.
