Of Menstruation and Empowerment

I want to talk for a moment about the importance of bio-Fem. I'm not sure if that's an actual name for an ideology, but it should be, because science and medicine haven't always been kind to women. Once upon a time, so-called science was used to justify oppression of all flavors, which I mention also because I read this really rad article by Avory ( Read more... )

I tried the Divacup, but it was so painful to insert I ended up abandoning my attempts and switched to organic cotton tampons. (I tried both sizes and neither worked. Just remembering makes me cringe. *shudders*)

As I've gotten more involved in the pagan world, I've met people who definitely go overboard on the "Isn't this great!" side of things, but I think it's a nice counterbalance at times.

Really? Wow. The first time I used it, I ended up getting an infection because I didn't know what I was doing. But that was it. I found it so much more convenient to insert than tampons ever were for me. I could never use the cardboard applicators, I had to use the plastic but it still often made me feel like I was going around with a sex toy in my pants or something. I've never noticed the DivaCup ( ... )

Hahaha, your point is so awesome, and I wish it's one heteromen thought of when asking their heterofemale partners these kinds of questions. Because I'm not sure what a spring mountain would taste like, but I'm pretty confident it would involve at least a few chemicals and probably some vinegar.

I once had an argument about body hair with B, where he complained that it makes oral sex unpleasant. I told him it goes both ways, that while I like hair on a man, I don't necessarily like it shoved down my throat or in my mouth to begin with. He'd never thought of it that way before, because so much emphasis on "hygiene" (that's a word I use loosely) is directed at women.

Really? I didn't know that. I wonder if the folks blogging about how white Feminists don't make race the priority it needs to be are familiar with it, because that picture has been circulating around a lot of blogs. My guess is, they don't, and even if they did, it probably wouldn't change their fundamental thesis, which I can agree with. Obviously, I need to go listen to this song. Thanks for letting me know.

Lunapads are AWESOME. Do you have any yet, yourself?
