Somehow, I think this had scared her more than my demanding to be shot. I tried to remember the last time Lilah had shown any emotion other than anger, and come up empty. She probably had no idea how to be comforting at all, but that didn't matter. What did matter was that she didn't push me away, and I could feel her arms around my body, her fingers on my skin and that was close enough
