I haven't posted in a while, due to a lot of moving around, holidays and general inner turmoil. But the need to rant has surfaced again, so the following is my current life in a nutshell, and several pedagogical criticisms rolled into one big rant:

(a lot of it is just personal note-keeping)

Yeah, 99% of how people get hired/chosen/whatever is crap. So much for meritocracy.

"I've done guinea pig lymphatic research already." HAHAHA, FAVOURITE QUOTE EVER.

I'm pretty sure i'm not the only one who sees some degree of insanity in that.

preaching to the choir, baby.

I'm not sure why you see yourself as going backwards in time if there's more that can be done in the lymphatics field. I don't know much about it, but I'm sure you barely scratched the surface the first time around. Unless you hated the work... In any case, if a better opportunity doesn't come along, you should take it.

You should TOTALLY come to Calgary :D
Hey, it's a really good sign that a prof called you up and asked if you were interested.

My academic record is far from stellar, but that really doesn't count for much in the real world. Doesn't help that I hated chem by the end either. I hate the marking system, and don't believe it reflects a person's intelligence. I'm sure I'ver ranted about that once or twice.

But yeah, come to Calgary :) I think my roomie is searching for an additional one.. not sure when though, but it may be an option, depending if and when you'd be coming.

Well, I didn't escape unscatched. There was the one time I deeply inhaled 17M HCl (don't EVER try that).. another time I forgot to put the magnetic stirrer in my mixture, so plopped it in when it was at about 60c and it splattered on my head (which burned for the next 3-4 hours, but thankfully I was wearing the proper PPE)... Last but not least, that time I fell off the stool in phys chem and fractured my leg.

Given the option, I would NEVER do chem again.

I feel your pain. I don't know how you managed to live far away from home in the first place. I would die... from incompetence ( ... )

lol if we combine forces we'll be one SUPER STUDENT....well either that or REALLY pathetic, ahaha....where did you apply? i never even bothered applying anywhere until i know where i'm going

actually living away from home is kind of fun in the fend-for-yourself way - you definitely appreciate things more, like eating food thats not cooked by you or you dont have to pay for....seriously, thats a rareity in the real world, lol

I just applied to the UofT Occupational Therapy program.. because it was the only one I could/want to apply to that wasn't already past the deadline! XD
I was so unmotivated and scared of grad school and not having money that I didn't even PEEK at when the deadlines for any apps were (most apps were due by the beginning of December). So by mid-December, I realized I only had the OT program left to apply to. :D

It's just as well though...

But I better get in. I will be very angry that I wasted $245 to not get in should that happen.

And I don't want to fend for myself.. someone.. where's my silver spoon..? :O

- Prax, let's starve, baby!

Ar sorry I missed this Yennies... I've been going back through my friends page tonight as I irregularly do. Both you and Weija with the pro/con entries! Well as much as I'd like you to stay in Ontario so's the triumvirate's not completely spread out across the hemispheres, Calgary does kinda seem like the stronger option. You totally said it right that we are judged by how well we take tests. Well... if you're in the sciences at least. *loves creative writing* *loves being poor* yay!
