Second session, first dance.
Better than last session's dances, I think. Partly because we had a good chunk of cool staff coming second-session only, so there was more of a critical staff mass. But the cool session 2 folks come with a price.
In Pie, we had a few hash collisions, as dual-session folks and session-2 folks tried to fill the same roles. Two people tried to hold up the candlestick, there were at least three girls who sang the blues, and, perhaps most annoyingly, the Alcovians' jester jumped into the circle and usurped our jester, which meant she took our king's thorny crown, and he had to go hunting through the students' prop bag to retrieve it. And then there was the rolling stone. For several years, I have traditionally turned a somersault for the line "And moss grows fat on a rolling stone." I'll tun a somersault in just about any circumstances. Wearing a jacket and tie for the last dance? No problem. Extra-small circle due to lack of staff? I'll just turn a bit more before hitting the ground, so I don't roll so far. But tonight, there was an added twist I wasn't expecting to face. Halfway through my somersault, I felt something crash into my back, and I was pushed off course. Without looking, I knew what had happened, and who did it. Nekkid, who is here for second session only, and is more acrobatic than anyone else, forgot that I was the stone -- he gets to be Jack Flash, and sit on the candlestick, because he can jump like nobody's business -- and rolled at the same time. We collided more or less at right angles, and were rather fortunate to not get hurt. We were both struck in the back, so no head injuries. Nekkid said that as soon as he felt the collision, he went limp, but I lack his martial arts reflexes, and staggered to my feet more clumsily. I had mostly forgotten about the incident my the time the marching band refused to yield, and all was well. Any lingering aches in my back were taken care of by a midnight viewing of Shaolin Soccer. I think this will be a good weekend.
Oh, and tomorrow (er, today) I'm missing most of the dance to see TMBG play a kids' show in Philadelphia. Yay for me!
