So...here's an odd dream from last night...
I dreamt that I was the piano soloist in Yehudi Wyner's piano concerto
Chiavi in Mano, despite the fact that I've never heard this piece in real life. In the dream, I only got as far as the first movement, but that was pretty interesting. For that movement, in lieu of a piano, the instrument I was to play was made up of numerous piles of flat rocks. These piles of rocks were arranged in a layout similar to a piano keyboard -- larger rocks went on the left, like the bass notes on a piano -- though this "keyboard" was in the shape of an "L". At the beginning of the movement, I tapped on the rock piles with my fingers, making a soft clinkety-clink sound over a subdued orchestra. As the orchestra grew louder, I got up and stood on top of the rocks, tap-dancing in improvisatory rhythms. My dancing grew more intense and frenetic, and I literally leaped from the bass to the treble and back.
Somehow, I don't think that's what Wyner actually composed.
And no, I will not go and compose it myself.
