Giving Butts To Barry Cuz I Felt Bad About His Butthole

I'm sitting here at the public library while I make this entry. I got off work about fifteen minutes ago, walked downtown to where I'm at now. The community kitchen a few blocks away doesn't open until 5pm so I got some time to kill before I get me some GRUB, BUB!! LOL! I'm fucking hungry like the dog, cat, and "The Wolf," man, as Duran Duran ( Read more... )

The problem with not sewing the butthole shut is mucus. It's either sew it shut or have mucus coming out all the time.
Sometimes they can do a temporary colostomy while the bowel is healing and then hook back up to anus.
People really do hate the mucus, so all in all I think I would prefer to be sewn shut.

I'm a nurse. :P

Wow, thanks for the info! I actually didn't get into questioning Barry as to why they sewed his butthole shut; at first I was just so struck by how horrible it must have been to wake up and have a doctor tell you that your butthole is sewn shut forever. I know that pooping normally, out of your anus, isn't something people talk about how much they love doing or anything; but to have it taken away from you, something that's such an integral part of your daily existence, without warning, struck me as so traumatic.

This morning I did get to wondering why they would sew it up and I was talking to some friends about it. No one knew. I figured there was some medical reason and thank you so much for providing it :=) Not only are you a fellow Vikings fan, you're a nurse! How wonderful. I also love the icon, lol.

Since I live in Indiana, just an hour from Indy, I'm a Colts fan, too, and I'm getting ready to watch them play the Titans. They need a win tonight bad!

Urrrgh ! ;-)

Poor bloke, though. And I guess all of this wouldn't have been necessary if those guys in jail had reacted earlier?

Yeah, the way I understood it is that Barry's colon was flaring up and the inflammation was slowly getting worse while he was in jail, until it got to the point where the inflammation expanded into a complete blockage inside his intestine. So I assume if he had been treated earlier the blockage could have been prevented and his large intestine could have been saved, making it unnecessary to have his waste go directly from his small intestine into a colostomy bag, and therefore precluding the need to sew up his anus because it would still be in normal use as the portal through which the waste came out ( ... )
