Hay guys, welcome to Mumpo's first tutorial!

Today, we're going from this to
, as requested by nisey3518~

Okay, so here's our base, right?

It has a lot of potential for different colouring styles as many FFAC images do, but I'm going to do my standard one here. I go with this colouring for most of my icons, because it's simple and gets the effect I want without trouble. So duplicate the base and set it to Screen at 60%. Please note that depending on how light/dark your image is, you may not need this step (or you may change the Screen mode to Color Burn or Multiply if it's hecka light).

It may look washed out now, but we're getting there! Duplicate the base again and set it to Overlay at 100%.

Wait, something's missing... you guessed it, a DARK BLUE EXCLUSION LAYER %D Set #000544 to Exclusion at 100%.

We've done the obligatory, but the icon could have a little more contrast. We'll set a light blue #C1C1FB to Color Burn at 100%.

Now duplicate your base again and set it to Overlay at 100%.

Ooh, shiny~ But wait, there's more! Let's put some text in. I used the font Print Dashed in white, anti-aliasing on crisp, to get this:

The only problem with this font is that the smaller you put it, the harder it is to see %D So I had to duplicate the text layer two times (the second time on 70%) in order to see it clearly.

If there's room, which there happened to be above Cid's head here, you can add some tinytext. I'm lazy and used a brush by ohpaintbrush, but you can make your own tinytext somewhere around 1pt, with tracking/spacing around 1100.

Aaaaaaand we're done! Wasn't that easy? I hope it was helpful~

Now that you have Mumpo's secrets, lawl, I encourage you to go play around and show me your finished icons! DOOO IIIIIIT, I wanna see what you guys come up with~

If you like what you see, why not friend tacticons for future updates?
