Why doesn't the universe want me to play Oblivion???

OK, after a bunch of my friends gushed unrelentingly, I grabbed a copy of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion on Sunday. Go home to install it, and I don't have a working DVD drive in my computer. Head to the nearest store and get a new one and install the game and do a bit of dinking around to get he feel of things. So Monday I go to play and just after
