Boulder, boulder...

May 01, 2015 21:10

I didn't think I'd get much climbing-qua-climbing in today, so we just bought bouldering passes, which are slightly cheaper. Got in about an hour and a half, and eight problems.

I was successful at 5 of my attempted problems (including the overhangy green from last time, although my successful version approached from the shark end of the problem, not the alligator end*, so there's definitely still improvement to be made). The three I didn't manage all involve being able to push off/put real supportive weight through my right leg and foot, which is both annoying and helpfully consistent: I'm not just failing at climbing a thing, I'm failing because my problem hip is a problem. That can be worked on.**

And besides, one of my problems defeated my much more experienced spouse in exactly the same way I was getting defeated: so there's a 'cave' in this climbing gym, with a marked green problem, and a marked blue. We both get halfway up the green problem, to the point where you have to somehow put a lot of your weight on your right foot and push up towards a full standing position, with fuckall to hold on to near your right hand, while your left hand doesn't have a whole lot to hang on to either.

The blue problem neither of us can even get both feet off the ground without losing a handgrip and dropping the eight inches to the mats. I didn't count it as one of my eight problems. I need to get more than one hold into a problem before it counts. =P

*: No, seriously, the starting point at one end of this problem is a cartoon shark head, and the other end starts with a cartoon alligator head. They're kind of adorable.

**: Or at least cussed at in moderately cheerful tones.
