Hate moving

Hate, hate, hate, hate moving.

First there is all the neverending sorting, packing, and carrying things. Then there is the cleaning, which I haven't even started yet.

Best of all, there is the figuring out where the hell to put everything part. I just spent the better part of 15 minutes on the phone with my mother, each of us starting to get rather snippy with each other, attempting to explain that no, most of my furniture will not fit into my sister's room at the house. It's not that it can't be physically arranged in there, but rather, it won't fit through the door and wouldn't be able to navigate the tight turn from the hallway even if it could fit through the door.

To be fair, that's using direct measurements. There is a small height to play with on the legs of the desk - it's all one solid, non-dissassemblable piece, but along each end of the desk there is a part where the "legs" (a solid piece going the depth of the desk) are the only part making the full height, for about 9" or so, before the drawers start. It is vaguely possible that one might be able to take advantage of this and take the desk in at an angle... but the angle turning off the hall into the bedroom is tight, and picturing it in my head, I'm just not thinking it will work. I could probably work out the geometry of the thing, if I had more free time on my hands and the inclination to do so. Most likely, I think the desk will have to end up sitting in the middle of the family room, very carefully and completely covered with plastic wrapping to keep it safe and clean. I wish I'd just put my foot down and sold the desk, rather than letting my mom bulldoze me into keeping it.

Cirdan, I may end up taking you up on the offer to take one of the couches for a month, if you're sure that it wouldn't be an imposition for you and your mom. I might be able to squeeze the shorter couch into the bedroom, depending on how much that cushioning along the top of the couch will depress. I can't picture getting the longer couch in there, though. Again, it's a matter of the very small width of the doorway and the sharp turn from the hall. Damn old style architecture... it's much too cramped, more so than more modern construction I think.

Did I mention how much I HATE moving?
