Last Exile reminds me of Toward the Terra because like Toward the Terra the main characters are normally aboard ship and are hardly ever seen on ground, also like in Toward the Terra the sky is dominated by factions of humans fighting (in Last Exile's case it would be the Guild, Anatoray and Disith).
At the end of Last Exile secrets were revealed as with Toward the Terra. In Toward the Terra you find out that the Mu are the evolved stages of humans and all they want to do is reach Terra (which is Earth). In Last Exile you find out (if you didn't already guess) that Prester is a planet shaped like an hourglass with the Grand Stream in the middle. You also find out what the Mysteria mean and what Exile's use is, I believe Exile is a ship that is there to guide the humans back to Earth as the Mysteria says "What lies in the furthest reaches of the skies? That which guides a lost child back to her mother," the lost children being the humans and the mother being the place where all humans originate from- Earth. Or you could think it of Alvis being the lost child but I highly doubt the Mysteria would revolve around her. Also the Mysteria "What lies in the furthest reaches of one's memory? The place where all are born and all will return- A blue star," the blue star is Earth and for whatever reason humans abandoned it. That is why Exile exists- it is to take the humans back to Earth. But I still don't understand why the guild has power over Exile. Oh well.
