Well, that's because you ARE blackmailing them.

Well, as long as it's still pertinent I'd like to offer my two cents about the recent Livejournal wank. Specifically, these two:

  1. According to the TOS, LJ is indeed allowed to change up things without telling anyone. It has been this way for years.
  2. If the userbase does not agree to the Livejournal TOS, they should leave.
I don't mean that to be ( Read more... )

rants, livejournal

Seems to me the Waaaahmbulance is getting full and dropping people off at the Baaaaawspital, which is also quickly running out of space.

What a mess.

Anyways. WORD.

The boycotts do not go on for any meaningful period of time. The latest one, I believe, is set to last for all of twenty-four hours. Pardon my French, but big fucking deal. That's like organizing a twenty-four-hour hunger strike. Everyone knows you'll be back stuffing your face again at the stroke of midnight, and thus nobody has any reason to care.

Thank-you, because really--what the fuck is that? "Let's not use it for 24 hours...but then go back the following day to using it to show them we won't put up with their shit!" Last time I checked, strikes don't work like that. LJ won't fall apart if you don't use your journal for a day. If you're going to leave, just leave.

I guess really both sides should have seen it coming, since user tactics haven't changed much over the years as far as I can tell - actually, SUP could hardly not have seen it coming. But it may have been a case of them going through with the changes anyway. The bullying is probably going to continue no matter what SUP does, right? So I can see where Nosik's coming from when he says caving to it won't resolve anything.

But the users definitely should have seen it coming, is what I'm saying. It's right there in black and white, "things change around here sometimes," so...

Also, HUZZAH! *friends*

Yeah, it's totally true people shoulda expected basic to go away, but then again there had been promises of always a free no-ad feature... but that was some time ago. \O_o/ It was a, if I'm putting this right, idealistic promise... but I think it is a bit of a shame that some of that vision isn't going to be upheld ( ... )

SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK tafkae March 20 2008, 08:32:19 UTC
To be fair I didn't mean specifically that we should've expected Basic to go away (I think it blindsided pretty much everybody), just that in general we should expect stuff to change. (For the record, the only Basic account I have is actually a sockpuppet - and even then, it's still Basic even as we speak, so technically I'm not affected by this change at all.)

Fuuu.... well, one thing I can say for sure, I would not want to be in LJ's PR department right now or ever. I'm afraid even if they gave everyone the straight-up low-down right away, people would still find something to get pissed about... but I guess we won't know for sure what happens until they try that. :\

Maybe we should write a letter to SUP and ask them politely to update the Terms of Service so they can quote it at people?
