Last night I was at my brother's house and we were watching a 20/20. ( Rape, Murder, and Justice )

Good question. If she was really acting out of her emotional control, then I think a sentence similar to the one she received was appropriate.

That does not justify what she did, however. That man should be in jail right now, not dead. But yeah, I think the sentence was more or less appropriate.

Yeah, it was presented that she want acting purely out of a lack of emotional control. That said, one comment that a jury member made was "If she hadn't reloaded, I would've let her off".

Wow... just wow.

While I can understand that the "justice system" (and I do use that phrase with a roll of the eyes) had to punish her to prevent further justification of taking the law into ones own hands, I can certainly understand what she did.
Honestly, rape (in my opinion) is probably the vilest offence out there and people should be afraid for their lives if they ever consider it, especially with a child. Had it been my daughter? I don't know that I would have thought killing him would have been enough...

Yeah, this is something that really strikes a chord and hits very close to home with me. I agree that it is absolutely the most vile crime a person can commit, and he probably got off light. Had the mother had any kind of imagination she would have shot him in the nuts..."To the pain" as it were. Thus ensuring he would live with the knowledge he would never have sexual gratification again.

I like that idea.. Best to remove his hands, lips and tongues too, just in case. And what better device for removal than a rusty knife every good woman just *happens* to have?
