How much does Death's Head weigh? If the enemy's horse is less bulky than he, that obviates much of the advantage in a straight-up horse fight. (As an aside, I understand that one of the uses of a shield is to deflect the head of the lance before it hits the body. while the opponent is busy dropping his useless lance and grabbing for his mace, Death's Head can close in.)

Actually a scenario of the the horse being freaked out by DH and unimpressed enough by his rider's lack of skill could lead to the horse simply throwing his rider and galloping off, which would shift how the entire battle gets fought ( ... )

I think "bigger is better" is his creed. Which isn't to say that this war-horse might also be smart enough to know that he's at a disadvantage. It will be an interesting scene to write.
