Respectful Response to Julia Serrano

Okay, I'm a half-generation too old to have been first awakened to the overlaps between trans rights and feminism by Julia Serrano (Davina Anne Gabriel what happened to you?) but holy crap is she an awesome writer. That's interesting. I was just talking with an old friend of mine who is a professor and also a huge Edward Said fan. And he said he was currently reading a book from a woman who was describing the history of Western/Middle East relations. And part of that antagonism involved sexualization; The West has a long history of obsessing over the sexuality of Middle Easterners.

As for causality, I don't think I have an opinion. I'm going to think on it.

Men's issues with MTF trans people seem to be based in homophobia more than anything else. The idea that this beautiful woman might be "really a man" terrifies them.

You might want to do a little bit of reading before making such sweeping and unsupported generalizations. I'm sick of people trying to claim my oppression is *really* just a subsidiary of [a group of cis people's] oppression.
