All right, because the final Harry Potter is coming out in days, I am now recording my predictions; it should be fun to test myself. The movie altered my predictions very little (Luna's line cemented the idea that Sirius isn't gone for good, and Cho with the veritaserum makes cho slightly more likely for a bigger role). I reread the Halfblood Prince and discovered that I remembered almost nothing that happened; indeed, because almost nothing does happen. Not that I mind; it's a good setup for a climactic finish.
1. Snape is good. No question, 10/10 probability. The real giveaway is that Malfoy didn't inform Snape about his plan to sneak in the death eaters, to prevent him from 'hogging the glory'. The only failure on Dumbledore's part, coincedentally the only gap in Snape's information. And big D was obviously pleading for Snape to kill him, rather than to save him. Would Dumbledore really want Snape to save him if it meant death for Draco and his family, and a loss of the Order's best weapon, their double-agent? No contest.
2. Sirius not gone, 9.8/10. What a lame way to die, falling through a doorway. Luna's movie line, 'things have a way of coming back to you, but not in the way you expect', means that's just how Sirius will come back. Maybe not alive again, but it isn't the last we've seen of him. Once V dies, Harry won't need the independent orphan loner persona, so he could come back to life (but I'll give that one a 6/10).
3. No, Harry will not die, 10/10. First of all, if Rowling planned to off the main character, she wouldn't have 'hinted' about the possibility. Secondly... just no. Just because minor Cedric and Sirius/Dumbledore who both interfered with Harry's indipendence, doesn't mean the main characters are likely to die.
4. Character mortality probability (10 = no chance of death, 0 = no chance in hell)
-Harry-10
-Hermione-10 (Come on, the most kickass character/feminist in the whole book?)
-Ron-9.8 (Almost impossible, but if any of the main children sacrifice themselves, it's Ron)
-Ginny-10 (Harry offered to dump her for her safety; she refused. She can't die now)
-Neville/Luna-10
-All the other Weasleys-10
-Snape-5 (I think it'd suck if he didn't get to live on as a hero, but it'd be pretty fitting for him to sacrifice himself for Harry, maybe kill wormtail)
-Current Hogwarts Faculty-10
-Draco-10
-Bellatrix-0 (Killed by Neville, Harry, Tonks, or Lupin, hopefully Neville)
-Fenrir Greyback-0 (Killed by Lupin, Tonks, Bill, or Fleur, probably Lupin)
-Wormtail-1 (If he lives, he goes to Azkaban)
-Voldemort-0
-Lupin/Tonks-9 (unlikely, they just got together after tonks was all broken)
-The other Aurors-5 (can't decide who, but some Aurors have to die)
-Minister of Magic-6 (Didn't mention this, but my predictions with more than half count as 'yes' predictions)
Those are all I can think of. I hope Luna and Neville join in on the fun, but it's unlikely that they'll just pack up and follow harry under current circumstances.
I found a copy of 'Magical Thinking' on our bookshelf, purchased at Cornell U bookstore. I'll have to slaughter a goat in my brother's honor.
Well, it's 4:30 AM; I should probably sleep or something
