So today I've been thinking about what makes me read certain fics and what makes me click the back button on my browser, and why sometimes going back to a fic you loved makes you frown and say, 'huh, you know, I don't actually want to read this fic now ( Read more... )

I know what you mean about only wanting to read fics that fit with how you see the characters. I am so not in the mood for fluff at the moment and with some pairings it just does not work anyway.

I have discovered a certain fascination for Heroes fics that focus on Mohinder because I think he has a lot of potential as a character and lots of back story, but I had to stop reading some of them because he was being portrayed as so naive and really not intelligent.

I go through phases with SGA because sometimes I can see the relationship between John and Rodney as slashy and other times I just don't. They do have a great dynamic though, whichever way you want to portray it. It really annoys me that I can't find many well written, thought provoking fics about Weir and I really want to be able to get inside her head.

I do agree with you on the Snape/ Harry fics that should not be fluffy. They should hurt (in a strange kind of way).

This really is the kind of discussion that would work better in a face to face conversation, but hey.
