Back to part 1 Part two of this review is brought to you by the number 113. If you've been on my flist any amount of time, you'll know the obsession I have with playing A Beautiful Mind with Show. (See the last several seasons - # 109.) This year, we noticed that Route 666 has come up a LOT.
Then we started seeing the number.
You'll have to take my word for this one, but it shows up more than once. It's impossible to cap on the clock next to Sam's bed from 5.03, or Bobby's hospital room from 5.02.
Anyway, 1.13 is Route 666. Coincidence? I think not.
We reviewed Route 666 and found that:
A) It is the only episode in which Holy Ground is a means of destruction, and
B) CAS(sie) is the only recurring name in Show besides Nick.
I've seen a LOT of meta on the Castiel and Ruby parallels, but assuming we bring Route 666 into the mix, can we assume foreshadowing that Cas will reject Dean after he's put ALL of his trust in him the same way that the other recurring name, Nick, turned out to be Lucifer when the first Nick was a Siren? And isn't it weird that there was supposed to be a sex scene in a motel room that looks almost identical to Sam's Sex and Violence hotel room and that was the Siren episode? Think they cut it because they figured NICK was a big enough clue?
*sips the Kool Aid*

Watch Sam's carefully guarded expression here. He's come to this out of lonliness and a need to connect with a human being on a very basic level - but he intends to reveal nothing about himself. It's not safe for her.
Until she tells him there is nothing that you can't be forgiven for.
The reason Sam has never completely lost his hope before is that when he doesn't have hope, he still hopes that there IS hope, and isn't that what Hope is all about?
~~~
Meanwhile, Sam Cas and Dean are sneaking up on Raphael some old lady.
Careful, Cas. He might be sleepin' with his peepers open.
I'd really, really love the imagery of this if this cap didn't remind me so much of the cap of Bobby in the wheelchair, arg DNW.
So Raphael shows up and he can haz elektricks!
Does that make him a fire bender?
*psst* Hey guys - Remember when this was scary?
Hehheh.
I liked Raphael very much in the sense that, unlike someone else who he GREATLY reminds me of, *cough*Uriel*cough* there is no malice towards people, really, in his speech. He's a forgotten child, wronged, lonely, a tired warrior. Sound like anyone else we know? *cough*Dean*cough*
Still, his methods are DENIED. *bitchface*
Ohnoes! Raphael fell into The Burning Ring of Fire!!! \o/
~*~ Musical Interlude~*~
I like Castiel here, he's just a lost child, a weary warrior, a ... wait. ...
*glitch in the matrix*
FAAAAAAAAAAAAACE.
Dear Cas,
YOUR FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE.
*wibble*
~T
Yeah, it sucks getting left alone in your own mess for 3 days, doesn't it? Hey, there's Gordon! Let's ask him.
*props chin on hands*
...... Well?
.... guess he doesn't feel much like talking.
Dean follows Sam Cas out with one last snide remark.
I half-expected him to tell Sam Cas, "I'm good now. We can go!"
~~~
Here we find Sam back in the bar-thingie. I know some bad crap is about to go down because he's not wearin' his I-Can't Get This Dirty shirt anymore.
(Dear Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things - YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.)
Enter trouble. Now, I'd like to state here for the record that I KNOW what Sam was doing, letting these asswipes live, but that will come back to bite him. *sigh* Oh, Sam. I don't envy you at all. But I'm available for hugs, if you want them. *opens arms*
In case anyone cares ..
Tahiri: Who is Tim Janklow?
Blacklid: The hunter whose friend got killed; the one who forced the blood into his mouth.
Tahiri: oh.
Tahiri: I've already established that I can't be bothered to remember that.
Tahiri: *moves on*
See Sam blame himself for every freaking thing. See how his eyes glitter with regret. Hear the sound of a trillion fangirls sobbing in their nachos.
Now add one potential innocent victim.
Hello. My name is Sam Winchester.
You threatened my girlfriend love interest Jess substitute coworker.
Prepare to die.
Clearly has no idea who he's effing with.
Strange that the first time we see Vampires we learn they aren't what we thought they were, then we learn they may not all be evil, and now Whatshisname thinks Sam is a vampire of sorts but assumes he will fight on the side of GOOD automatically, like once Sam 'Hulks out' he expects him to still be able to control the DEMON BLOOD.
"Uh ... Tim? Are YOU on crack?"
My thoughts exactly, Linds. My thoughts exactly.
Sam, don't make that face. You CAN say no. I believe in you. *believes*
Odd how in here, we have the two boys pinning Gordon down to make sure he's not a vampire, and here we have two hunters pinning Sam down hoping that he is.
Could Sam go ONE episode without getting strangled and drowned, PLEASE?
Don't go back to the crucufixtion imagery, though - DNW kthxbai.
Not only does Sam have the strength to haul himself up from the humiliating depths of Rock Bottom, he finds the courage to spit the blood back in asshat's face and save the girl! \o/
You know what she's REALLY thinking, right?
Yeah, me too.
*fans self*
P.S. Is that MARY'S Jacket?
Dear Sammy; You killed the Vampire. Breathe.
*and hugs*
~~~
This may be one of the best scenes in the episode, because it's where Dean tells Sam Cas to keep on believing in God. even though he's sad and discouraged. And Dean's words mirror 4.7 ...
But the tension and the sadness mirror 4.4.
Are you thinking about it too, Dean? About how you sat there and begged your brother not to become a monster? Are you thinking how you feel like a worse monster than he ever was? Are you remembering how he said he missed the feeling, and all you could think was that you understood better than anyone in the world? No?
Oh, honey. You believe you less than anyone.
*and hugs*
"The Start of The End of Everything, or the Scene that FINALLY Happened."
Sam wakes up to Jessica for the second time. He already looks upset, like he knows she's there and she's going to torture him, but he's already decided he doesn't care, he just wants to see her one more time, no matter what it costs him.
He looks straight to the ceiling, but this time instead of this -
"Sometimes you wake up. Sometimes the fall kills you. And sometimes, when you fall, you fly.”
~Neil Gaiman~
He gets this.
*We interrupt this review to say that tahiri is dead now from the next screencap and will need time for somone to find her corpse ,use their sex pollen,and make a deal and bring her back*
Seriously though, this is now officially my favorite Sam cap of all time. It encompasses so much about him there just aren't words. I know, I know, this is a review. TOO BAD. THERE AREN'T WORDS.
*sobs in a corner*
This is the hardest part, watching the slow death of Sam's hope in Hope.
"You're wrong. There is a reason for hope."
"No, there isn't."
The big reveal: Sam is Lucifer's true blood vessel.
Now, before everyone starts in on how predictable this is, I'd like to say .... EXACTLY! Everyone has known in their heart that Show was going to GO THERE for at LEAST 2 years ... but you all STILL DOUBTED, didn't you? I did. Know why? Because Show? Is AWESOME. So, yes,
I wrote that once,
or twice, but you know why I wrote it when I did? Because I felt like THAT plot with THESE characters would be one of the most epic stories I'd ever read, and I thought to myself, 'Show is NEVER going to get the chance to do this on the freakin' CW, no way in Hell,' and so I wrote it just to see what it might look like. So all I had in response to Show was this : I'm so proud of you.
And, as always - Oh, SAM. *flails and sobs*
The horror and shock and despair and helplessnes and fear and and and! And JUST when he found a reason to hope. JUST when he finally admitted that maybe he CAN make the right choice - and then Lucifer gives him hope again - he needs Sam's consent.
This cap hurt more than every cap I looked through. It speaks VOLUMES about Jared's talent that this is the ONLY FRAME in which you can see the defiant joy in Sam's face. Just a flash, and then it's gone - snatched away just like everyone he's ever loved.
Kill me now. Anyone?
Defeated, Sam falls back on the age-old question.
Season 1
"Why? I want to know why."
"Why'd I kill mommy and pretty little Jess?"
"Yeah."
"Because they got in the way."
"In the way of what?"
"My plans for you, Sammy. You - and all the children like you."
Season 2
Why me?
It wasn't about her; it was about you. It's always been about you.
Season 3
Why?
This was sooo not about killing Dean. This joke? Is on you, Sam.
Season 4
Why me?
Because it had to be you, Sam, it always had to be you.
Season 5
Why me?
Because it had to be you, Sam. It always had to be you.
~*~ Musical Interlude~*~ ("It had to be you", Frank Sinatra)
Omg! Just answer the damn question!
.... yeah, he won't. Sorry, baby. *pets*
In conclusion,
"You must never give in to despair. Allow yourself to slip down that road, and you surrender to your lowest instincts. In the darkest times, hope is something you give yourself. That is the meaning of Inner Strength."
