Shake, Rattle, & Roll!

It has been an interesting morning... At 7:07 am this morning we had a 6.5 earthquake here on the island of Hawai'i. There is damage reported in the Kona and Kamuela areas, but power has been restored in many areas on this island. From what I understand, and what is being reported on TV, O'ahu is still without power as are parts of Maui county ( Read more... )

glad to hear you are ok and nothing was really damaged for you. i was watching the news this afternoon and couldn't believe how much they were sensationalizing things. they actually took something the tsunami center flat out denied (that hawaii, which is always sinking, sunk a great deal today as the result of the quake) and reported it over and over again as fact. i understand that news anchors aren't experts on hawaii or geology, but they obviously don't even listen to the information they are given. they have a dramatic angle they want to pursue and they just run with it.

take care. and do keep us posted on how things are going down there. i'm very intersted to hear about it (and from someone who actually understands what's going on).

Hi, I found you in our Hawaii community here and just wanted to say my heart goes out to you. I'm in LA now so you know I understand what this is like. I get so scared after quakes, very PTS about it, when trucks rumble by or planes fly low, my heart jumps up into my throat. It's been a while though and I think I've become a bit complacent. Anyway, Hawaii is my favorite place on earth and when anything upsetting happens there I just feel so bad.

I hope you're okay and of course that your friends and family are all well. I just wanted to come by and send you some love : )

Great big super friendly hugs,
Jacqui

PS: Thanks for the geneology link, it was fun, I ran it with two different hair colors because I go between brunette and blonde and the celebs I got back were different based on my hair color. Here's a bad picture of me from last Christmas.

Aloha Jacqui,

First, mahalo for the luv and aloha - it was sweet of you to take the time to post in my journal!

I lived in Cali for 26 years before returning to my home, and I have been through quite a few quakes, but this one was different. It bounced as well as rolled... Interesting feeling! Hubby and I thought about standing in the doorway like you are supposed to, but our apartment building is an older wooden structure, and the doorway was swaying back and forth! So we went outside instead and watched the building sway to and fro... It was interesting to say the least!

But all is settling back in to normal now, and life goes on...

Again, thank you for the thoughts and wishes!

Na'u,
na Kealoha
