Ukitake, much like Riza, has liked Squall from the moment they met. He finds the young man to be a little impulsive, but sometimes that's a refreshing thing to see. Once Squall sets his mind to something, he works to get it done. Ukitake sees this as a good thing, especially in this sort of setting.
Sometimes Ukitake can get fed up with Squall's mother hen act, especially when he's sick or a little sad, but he knows Squall means well. He would do the same for his friend, even draw his zanpakutou in defense if he had to.
Ukitake is a loyal man and so is Squall, so he finds him very trustworthy. Squall isn't a replacement for his best friend, but he is definitely high up there. He is easy to talk to and makes Ukitake smile all the time with his bad jokes and sometimes poorly-masked emotions.
In short, Arashi~ is one of Ukitake's favorite people in Adstring.
Ukitake and Rinoa bonded over tea within the first week of his arrival to Adstring. And then they lived happily ever after.
Okay, honesty now. Rinoa always makes Ukitake smile, even if he can't always explain why. He loves talking to her and being around her. He just wishes he could work up the guts to invite her over more often, but he doesn't want to look desperate. And knowing Rinoa and Squall's history, he doesn't want to be "that guy" who takes the girl, even if nothing bad would come of it.
Ukitake would do anything for Rinoa, if she asked for it or didn't. On more than one occasion he has gone out to "save" her only because he cares that much. And, deep down and secretly, he is pleased to be the first one to her rescue.
Now all he needs to do is screw his head on straight and throw caution to the wind so he and Rinoa can get out of that awkward stage in their relationship.
We need to change this, bb. Wasn't Uki supposed to go to Jean's house and have tea with him and Ran or something?
Ukitake has only spoken with Jean a few times and yet to meet him in person, though he wants to when he's allowed out of the house again. For first impressions, he likes Jean, thinks he's a genuinely friendly and nice guy with others' best interests at heart. He also smiles a lot, which gives Ukitake the impression that Jean can see the good in life, despite all the weird things going down in Adstring.
However, Ukitake also knows Rangiku's reputation for being a flirtacious drunk and while he wants to warn Jean of her craziness, he feels like that would be sticking his nose in business he doesn't belong in. He doesn't want to see Jean get hurt, but he's not sure how to prevent that if it should happen, or if it's even possible to prevent such a thing.
But he looks forward to meeting Jean and hopes their friendship is strengthened in the future.
