DOSBox is too slow! You need a 2 GHz processor just to run Crusader: No Remorse! My baby only has 600MHz to play with, so I need something less... Drastic ^^;;
DosBox (there is a Linux version as well as a windows one). DOSEMU (is ok) QEMU (which will let you run an actual copy of DOS)
or ...
OpenDOS (which is actually a DOS Operating System which you could install to dual boot or run using virtualisation software such as QEMU, VMWare, etc ...)

Install MS-DOS, single boot. I've got disc images for v1.0 thru 6.22, somewhere.
