Title: Soft Spots for Soft Kittens

Pairing: Sooseop

Rating: G, fluffy mcfluffernutters

Summary: Kittens are cute. So is Kiseop. The two together are a threat to humanity.

Prompt: Kiseop finds a cat and brings it home. His lover and flatmate doesn't approve of all the attention he's giving the animal. Requested by darkqueen_25.

When Soohyun comes home one day to Kiseop cooing at a scrawny orange kitten, he figures he'll be able out his foot down and say no. Their apartment is far too small and their work hours are too long to properly look after a kitten. The last time they tried to keep a pet, they managed to kill the goldfish. So Soohyun steels himself and enters the living room, ready with convincing arguments as to why there should not be a kitten in the house.

His first feeling is jealousy. Kiseop's cooing at the kitten in the voice he normally reserves for when Soohyun has had a really bad day. Guilt and some embarrassment follows because why is he jealous of a kitten. But Soohyun can't completely suppress his possessive streak and his next query comes out more petulant than he would have liked. He opens with what he thinks is a fair question.

"Why is there a kitten in your lap?"

Kiseop looks up, eyes shining in excitement. "Isn't he the cutest thing? I found him in an alley on the way back from the dance studio. Someone had left him there and I couldn't just leave you there now could I baby?" Soohyun feels his eyebrow twitch in irritation at the endearment. "So do you want to me to see if the shelter will take him?" This is partly an attempt to get the conversation back on track but mostly so Kiseop will stop calling the damn kitten 'baby'. The baby's stop but they're replaced by Kiseop's Puppy Dog Look™. Soohyun can practically see the ears drooping. "Can't we keep him? Just until we find him a home?"

Soohyun likes to think he's used to resisting the effects of puppy dog eyes. He's a vet for god's sake, he works with dogs all the time and the look's named after them. But now the kitten is looking up at him too and Soohyun's got a soft spot for kittens a mile wide. A few seconds later he sighs and concedes victory to Kiseop and his cat minion. Reaching over to pet the small animal, he's met with claws and hissing. Hurriedly withdrawing his hand, Soohyun clutches his now bleeding finger. He shuffles indignantly out of the room, vowing never to get near the kitten for the rest of its stay.

Soohyun is hovering around the kitten two minutes later and is promptly thrown up on. Kiseop rushes over, towel at the ready. Soohyun is completely ready to cry over the dry cleaning bill that’s sure to come, but Kiseop brushes past. He scoops the kitten into his arm and begins to clean it. “Can you get another towel,” Kiseop inquires, distracted by his current task. “I need to finish cleaning him.” Soohyun sputters for a few seconds before storming out of the room, leaving behind a very puzzled Kiseop.

Two days pass without anything happening and Soohyun believes he and the kitten have managed to come to a ceasefire. Not hours later, he finds cat fur all over his best suit. While he's not sure how the kitten managed to get fur under the collar, he knows one thing. This means war. He storms out of the room, looking for the kitten. What he finds is Kiseop, asleep on the couch. The kitten’s been keeping them both up into the wee hours of the morning and Soohyun knows this is probably the best sleep Kiseop’s had in a while. Sighing, Soohyun goes and finds a something to keep the kitten occupied for a little while longer. That “something” turns out to be his favorite pair of jeans.

A few days later, Soohyun comes home to a curiously quiet home. There’s no kitten skittering across their floors, so he takes the opportunity to nap on the couch. Kiseop comes in a while later and sits down next to Soohyun’s head and absent-mindedly begins petting it.

“Where’s the kitten,” Soohyun inquires sleepily, having been woken up by the contact. Kiseop grins down at him. “I found him a home. One of my students wanted a pet so I gave her the kitten. I’m sure she’ll take good care of it.” Soohyun’s not sure what to feel but his thoughts are interrupted by Kiseop continuing to speak. “I prefer black to orange anyways.”

At that, Soohyun stiffens. “I wasn’t jealous,” he insists, but it sounds weak even to him. Kiseop looks at him with an indulgent expression on his face. “Of course you weren’t,” he replies, but continues to pet Soohyun’s head all the same.

A/N: I don't have a cat. I have a fat guinea pig that sits and eats the entire day. If I've grossly misrepresented cats here, I apologize.
