POLITICS! Moar Health Care Reform thoughts.

Dec 19, 2009 02:46

Am I the only one who gets the distinct impression that if Benjamin Franklin, or Thomas Jefferson had any concept of what an MRI was or whether or not modern medicine was possible(Hint: we get many of our modern quack nostrums from the 18th and 19th centuries) that healthcare would be covered like fire and police coverage?

Just a random thought.

Not random. Healthcare is a pretty pressing issue. I'm torn between being a good Libertarian and my desire to help everyone.

Honestly, though my concern with the health care thing is that we're going to be sinking money into people who won't pull their own weight. Free health-care for hard-working citizens and the elderly? Sure. Free health care for the mom who keeps popping out kids to get social security on them? Nope, bitch needs to get a job and stop reproducing.

I think this makes me a bad person.

Most of the young moms I know who won't quit popping out kids get their healthcare from Medicaid. :| I was actually told I'm ineligible for Medicaid, but if I got pregnant they would cover me.

That, to me, is a big slice of WTF right there.

Ahem. Medicaid. Still though. Just a societal form of supporting those who won't help themselves. I'm all for giving a helping hand to someone, but not for people who won't even try to pull their own weight.

Just a societal form of supporting those who won't help themselves.

Or can't. Just sayin'.

I don't disagree with you - people who don't actually put any effort into helping themselves don't really deserve a handout. My point is that it bugs me that those people can GET a handout and I can't.

I'd put money on it. If they had thought that there would ever be companies that make a profit by explicitly denying care to people who need it, I'm sure the Bill of Rights would clock in at eleven amendments, not ten.
