Who: Sakura and Naruto
When: Thursday evening
Where: Right outside of the dorm
Summary: Sakura tells Naruto about her dates
Warnings: None

Sakura was sitting outside of the dorm, waiting for Naruto to come home from work. Chewing some on her lip she wondered how he would take the news that Kakashi wanted to go on a date with her. It felt like the right thing to do to ask if it was okay with him, but that didn't make her any less nervous. She could only hope that he wouldn't take the news too hard. Looking around too see if Naruto was there yet she kept on chewing on her bottom lip.

Working at a radio station didn't keep Naruto from enjoying the music blaring into his ears from his iPod. When he approached the stairs he noticed Sakura sitting there and grinned. "Yo."

Smiling she gave him a small wave as a greeting. "Hi. How was work?"

"Awesome!" he enthused. "My training is over and I should be on air tomorrow."

"That sounds great. I'll make sure to listen to that radio station then," Sakura said, looking happy that he was doing so great. "Hey... Naruto, I...kind of need to talk to you. I have to tell you something." She started chewing on her lip again, looking up at him through her bangs.

"Ummm, alright." Naruto plopped next to her on the steps. "What's up?"

"Uhm...well... Earlier today a guy asked me out on a date," she started explaining, thinking that it would be a good idea to take it slowly. "And I kind of wanted to make sure that it was all right with you first."

Naruto tilted his head and rubbed his head. "Well, I mean, it's not like we're going out anymore or anything," he replied. "And a date isn't DATING. But, if the guy want's to date you, you better send him my way first. I've gotta make sure he's good for you."

"You're going to play the part of my father and big brother?" Sakura asked, laughing softly. "I will do that, I promise. This is actually the second guy that asks me out though... I swear, there must be something in the water here," she said and pouted. "But... The reason to why I wanted to ask you about this one is because it's Kakashi." Saying the last thing pretty fast she then waited too see his reaction.

"Ka-kakashi?" Naruto stammered the word. The hell? The man pounced on her like a cat and a mouse! And I just not to long ago I was telling....fuck "Then you better send him my way."

"Yeah... Okay, if I see him I will tell him that. Uhm... Does this mean that you want to meet Jin too? I'm supposed to meet him for ice cream tomorrow but that's not a date. ....I think," she added in a slightly uncertain voice. When did male friends get so troublesome? Where were the simple days when she was just crushing on Sasuke and all of them were just friends? Letting out a small sigh Sakura admitted to herself that it probably was her own 'fault'. Maybe I'm just too friendly too guys? Shaking her head she snorted at that thought. Friends were friends, period; she couldn't help it if some of them developed crushes on her.

"Well, I'll put it like this, the man you want to date like...you did me, you send him my way...."

Leaning back Sakura sighed deeply. "I don't like anyone that way I think. But it's fun going out on dates. Maybe I'll never find the one that I'll send your way," she suggested, smiling lopsidedly.

I'm kind of hoping for that.. "Well, you know if you don't find anyone to send my way, you know where to find me anyway."

Looking at him she couldn't help but smile softly. "Yes, I know. You really are a sweetie, you know that?"

"I'm aware." He blushed some and rubbed the back of his head. Che, too bad it doesn't do me much good.

He really is too cute, Sakura thought, looking a bit wistful. Sometimes she missed his kisses, but she couldn't exactly come to him and ask him to kiss her. Not when she knew how much he loved her - she just couldn't do that to him. Turning her eyes away from him and looking down in her lap she asked. "So... Is all this okay with you? Do you still want to talk to Kakashi-senpai?"

"Well, in all truth, there's nothing I can do about it," he admitted. "So, you just do what you want to do, you know?"

"You're sure? Because I would say no if you...you know, if this hurts you," she said, a flash of guilt showing up on her face.

"Only so that you can end up alone? No way."

Sakura shrugged, not really caring about that right now, "If it would make you happy, sure." Looking up at him she gave him a lopsided smile.

"Yes, it does," Naruto insisted. He wasn't sure if he was believing himself or not. But, he said to others and said to himself that her being happy, not matter how it happened through him or not, would keep him happy. He planned on living up to that.

"What? Me ending up alone and saying no to dates would make you happy?" Sakura teased, but knew what he meant. "So it's okay with you if I do this?" She had to ask, just to make sure. If she suspected that he would be hurt by this then she would say no to both dates.

Naruto gave a snort at her first comment. He hadn't meant it to come out like that, but it was the mixture of what was being set with what he was thinking at the moment. "Look, I said it was fine. I'm not going to keep you from dating people. I'm not going to be the psycho ex."

"You wouldn't be the Naruto we all know and love if you were." She smiled at him. "Okay. I just wanted to ask you first. Thank you," Sakura added as she stood up and gave him a small hug. "I guess I should let you go to your room and rest now."

"Yea." He rubbed the back of his neck and stood up. "Hey, Sakura, thanks for checking with me though. That meant a lot."

Shrugging she started walking up the stairs. "It felt like the right thing to do. I don't want to risk hurting you again," she mumbled but her voice could still easily be heard by him.

"Just don't go thinking you have to sacrifice things like dating people on the behalf or hurting me. That's not fair to you."

"There's other things in this life except for that kind of love," Sakura pointed out. She wasn't in love with anyone right now, so it didn't feel like a sacrifice to her. "You mean a lot to me, you're one of the most important persons in my life - that comes before my 'precious' dates."

"I'm well aware that there is...." he replied. His heart was starting to feel a little heavy in his chest at this moment.

When Naruto suddenly turned quiet she turned around to look at him. "Is there something wrong?"

"Uh? No nothing." Naruto moved to hurry ahead of her so he could open the door for her.

Once again shrugging Sakura smiled and thanked him as she stepped inside of the dorm. "Anyhow, how is work for you? Do you like it there?"

"Yea, it's pretty great. I get to talk a lot."

"Sounds like the perfect job for you," she said with a laugh. If there was something Naruto could do it was talk. A lot.

"And the music they play there is pretty sweet. So it doesn't drive me insane."

"It really sounds like you have found a job that fits you. I wish I could find one too." Not that she was sure that she had the time, considering her extracurricular activities and such, but it would be nice to have a part-time job.

"Yea, makes me considering working for a Mass Media degree or something next year."

"Really?" Sakura gave him a slightly surprised look but then smiled, happy that he had found something he could major in. "That could definitely work for you," she nodded.

"I mean, hey, I can entertain right? I'm not a scholar or anything, but I'm good at stuff like that you know?"

"Exactly. You're a great entertainer - I know that all too well," she chuckled. "Not everyone can be scholars and there's no shame in not being one." It was a bit unusual way of thinking for a Japanese, but Sakura had never thought that much about it. Sure, when they were younger she could get annoyed at Naruto when he didn't understand something and asked for her help, but as they grew older she started seeing his true value. Besides, it wasn't like he was bad in school - he just wasn't a scholar; Naruto could make her smile and that was a much better talent in her eyes.

"Shameful or not, it's a truth I've got to live with. " He paused for a moment. "So, where do your dates want to take you?"

"Jin is going to take me out for ice cream and Kakashi-senpai and I are going to eat dinner and then maybe go to the beach." Sakura tried not to think about Kakashi's suggestion that they should go skinny-dipping, if she thought about that she would only start blushing again.

"Oh, wow, that sounds fun." That kind of made Naruto ache some. When they were dating he was in his cast and never got to take Sakura to nice places like that often enough, especially the beach.

"I hope that it will be." Turning to Naruto to say something she managed to catch what looked like a wistful expression in his eyes. That made her say something she definitely hadn't planned to, but to her it sounded like a good idea. "Hey, what do you say about us going out on a date sometime? Considering that you got hurt we never really got the chance to go out on a date." It was true. They had been together for about a month and all they had done was go to a dinner together. "But I understand if you don't want to," she added, knowing that this might not be what he wanted. Sakura hoped that he wouldn't get any false hope from this.

Naruto gave a simple shrug.YES OH GOD YES "Maybe, we'll see when I can get a day off or whatever." It certainly would be really strange. "Besides, if you're seeing other people, it'll kind of be weird to them if you went on a date with you ex. They might get the wrong idea."

Sakura rolled her eyes. "I'm not seeing anybody - it's only a couple of dates. Besides, you're still one of my best friends so I don't see what the big thing is. They both know very well what you mean to me and if they wonder about why I do on a date with you they can always ask me about it." In her eyes it was that simple but others could probably misunderstand her actions and it could cause some trouble.

"Then, like I said, we'll see. It might best if we did something with other people with or something though..."

This time it was her turn to shrug. "Okay. Sure, if you want other to accompany us then we can ask some of the others if they want to join us. Hey, what do you say about going to the beach? It could probably be lots of fun if we went there together with some of the others." She loved going to the beach when it was warm enough for people to take a swim.

"Yea, that could be great," he replied, simply. "I work afternoons though. I'm going to have to see when I can get off or something. I don't want to take off right when I get hired and stuff. That wouldn't be like cool."

"Hmm... Let's hope you get next weekend free then - maybe we could go there then?" she suggested with a smile. "Wouldn't want you to get kicked for something like that."

"As soon as I know what day I have off, I'll let you know."

"Sounds good." By now they had come up to their floor and she gave Naruto yet another smile and a small wave. "Be sure to don't work too hard tomorrow, okay? I guess I'll see you around."

He pulled his hand from his pocket and waved back at her. "Yea, you too. Sleep tight, Sakura-chyan."

"I will. Good night, Naruto." With one last smile she turned to the direction of her room and started walking towards it.
