There are some things that can’t be forgiven.
Ron knows this better than anyone, because he knows Harry better than anyone, and he knows the monster that lives in Harry’s head when he sleeps. He knows him by the sound of Harry’s tortured breathing, by the sound his voice makes when he cries out in his sleep. “No,” he whispers blindly against the crook of Ron’s shoulder. “No, stop.”
Ron hates Voldemort in those moments, with the moonlight slanting down over Harry’s face. Hates him in the darkness, with clenched jaw and pounding heart.
Because some things can’t be forgiven.
