ChuChu and more about owls... >_>

ChuChu's crop seemed really big when I felt it this evening. I never paid attention before she was sick, so I don't know how big they get normally after a full day of eating, but I couldn't feel her collar bones at all. Everyone should go poke their parrot's crops today and tell me how they should feel. I'm really worried. :( She's still more ( Read more... )

Yes, the outside toe (fourth digit) on an owl's foot can swivel to the front or to the back. In my observations, perching with three toes forward is rare, and does not look quite the same as a normal anisodactyl foot. I'll go watch the trailer and see.

Well... it looks like they're being inconsistent, but leaning towards anisodactyl. All the owls in the trailer have the wrong foot position while flying, and most of them are ambiguous or outright anisodactyl while perching, but Soren seems to be gripping the flaming bucket properly at the end.

...ignoring the fact that feathers are flammable and this would cause him to ignite. God, I am not looking forward to this movie.

I am looking forward to the pretty, but keeping my expectations low as far as plot goes. (And soundtrack. God, that song they used for the trailer grates on my ears like whoa). Maybe there's a plot related reason why Soren isn't on fire, like it's a dream or something. IDK.

Tser, I just manhandled Kalu, who was finishing up her breakfast -- I can feel that her crop is there and that it's full, but it doesn't seem particularly prominent or swollen, and I can feel her furcula if I press into her a little (Kalu sez: "Oh, you want some of that? Here!" *hurk*). Of course, I don't know how much she ate. It seems like if I notice a full crop on Ninja or Kalu (Firefly doesn't like the same kind of neckrubs, so I usually don't notice his), it's empty fairly quickly, like maybe in an hour. That's just a guess, though. I'll check on Ninja the Piglet once he's up and aboot.

I chalk the inflammable feathers up to magic, the same with non-melting ice swords, ghost-owls, and fleck-dowsing. The books have a fair amount of "just because" logic and magic on top of the bad science. *lol*

The wrong depiction of owl talons will really, really bother me though. After they put so much effort into the visuals, to get that wrong will just drive me bonkers. I could forgive the fact that the owl's eyes move (one owl in the trailer rolls them, even) because it's an animation thing to give the owls expression, but the feet is unforgivable to me. Heh.

Flammable feathers reminds me though, I really need to get photos of my burnt-feather pottery!

And thank you for the crop probing, Kyn. I think her digestive system is still seriously messed up. :(
