Yard Progress

When we moved into our house, the yard was extremely overgrown -- blackberries, ivy, years of scraggly dead clematis vines with new ones clambering on top, ugly as sin Photinia with horrible (or no) pruning, equally ugly Arborvitae, and weeds galore. In addition, the shed was sunken and uneven, an extension of the deck in the form of a very ( Read more... )

I could have helped you get rid of those blackberries. *nom nom nom nom nom*

We've got baby blackberry sprouts by the hundreds popping up all over the yard right now, from where the berries fell, or birds pooped them out. Ha. Along with a few growing from roots that didn't get entirely removed during our original hacking down. My uncle tried to dig up all the roots, but was bound to miss some. So it's an ongoing fight that will likely last years!

I love the fruit too, but they're just so out of control. Heh. I will gladly go pick them off the huge hedges of invasive blackberries that grow along the roads and in the woods, rather than having it easy-access but taking over my yard. ;)

Awesome pics! Yes, it's a great year for lettuce - I've never eaten so much salad. My peppers and tomatoes are looking a little sickly, though. Personally, I like partly sunny and 75 right about now, not this March-murk. *shakes out moldy, wet feathers*

The Mud Pit (TM) would be a great place for a little hardscape area, with chairs, a table (for your laptops) and plants in pots.

We've decided on the gravel for the paths, and we stuck our swing over there. I think it's going to be a while before we can work on the landscaping for it. The yard work is just getting to be sooo expensive. There's a part of it I think would be lovely for a water feature (pondless fountain maybe?), and I'd like to have something tall growing up against the fence, both for landscaping design and privacy.

Hope your feathers have dried out now. ;)

Thanks! I feel so accomplished. *lol* Even if I didn't do much of the work. ;)

To misquote Shakespeare: A rose by any other name, would have sounded less awkward.

Hehehe, we wouldn't have gotten it if it didn't have such an awesome name!
