Fabulous audiobook, anyone?

So I'm looking for a good audiobook for my road trip back to school. The Golden Compass kept me company on the way home at the beginning of summer, but as I've read it a half a million times anyway, it wasn't exactly new material. (Hah hah get it? Material? As in... yeah nevermind ( Read more... )

The audio books for The Dark is Rising series are extremely well done. And if you haven't read those books, you really ought to. I suspect you'd enjoy them.

The radio dramas of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy are also very entertaining, as are the radio dramas of Star Wars.

And Dr. Poulty enjoyed the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum mysteries (but my mother said a new person read number 13 and isn't near as good.

I think we listened to #7.

Oh I was looking at those! Never read her, but the books look to be right up my alley. And mysteries are great fun to listen to.

I'll think on that, thanks!

Definitely am looking hardcore at Hitchhikers... but ooo Star Wars! That would be fun!

I read The Dark is Rising forever and ever ago, but I feel like they could do a re-read. Perhaps I'll read those... and grab the others for the car.

You're amazing. <3

Well, I'll mention the obvious... all of the Harry Potter books are really well performed by Jim Dale. Also, there's a collection of the Narnia books where each was done by a different actor, that's also really wonderful.

But those wouldn't be new material either ;-p

Actually, I'd kind of love to listen to DH with Mr. Dale, as wonderful as he is... but I feel like I need a teensey HP break. I need to branch out :P

A teensy break - heh, don't we all! I don't write or read HP fanfic anymore. Most of my fandominess takes place in the Firefly verse.

*pets pretty icon* queen_lothiriel has some excellent fandom icons. I take no credit except ofr having the taste to wear them...

;-p

Not that many suggestions for Audio, but A Thousand Splendid Suns should be read - or listened to (Audio). Do you have it? For books, The Known World is probably the best books on slavery in the last decades - if not ahead of Faulkner's well-known classic. It won the pulitzer, by the way, and two other prizes (if I remember correctly), as well as being Oprah's Book Choice (or another reading group choice . . . don't remember :/).

I love that wallpaper of Peter Pan - stretches the imagination "to the sky". :D

Thank you so much!
