I went to N.O. in February of 2006. I'd be interested to see how much improvement has been made in the since my visit, because in the 6 months between it and my Katrina it really didn't look like anyone had done anything. Driving through the trashed 9th Ward, it occured to me that it was probably a good thing such an inhumane place for poor people to live was destroyed and those people were given money to relocate in TX. I made a few trips to the south last year, and as far east as South Carolina I met a lot of people who had been forced to relocate, and we're ultimately glad they did so.
then there's those who call it the diaspora. sure some people have found new and perhaps better opportunities elsewhere, but there are too many who want to return - maybe they should have that right, there are ways to make it safe(r) to be there
i'm living in the lower ninth ward right now where some 60 residents live, where 6000 used to be - it's desolate and broken and maybe a lot of homes that you would've seen in feb have now been bulldozed, but improvement is definitely at a glacial speed here
