For the record, although I support birth control (stuff that DOESN'T make you pregnant before you actually get preganant, as in, not abortions) and the right to choose [responsibly!], I really can't stand late-term abortions. The line has to be drawn somewhere. I wish there was a law that if you consider aborting your baby in the third trimester, you have to give birth to it and it must be put up for adoption, because that is the first sign of irresponsible parenting, plus I think waiting to the third trimester to make that decision is despicable.
But I'd like to learn more about Obama saying that "late-term abortions is a usable form of birth control." Did he really say that?
I could go on and on, and I think I'm opening Pandora's box now, so I'll stop there. :P

Haha, I just realized how I stepped into a very very very gray area for myself. I certainly want the government to keep birth control and abortions legal, and like the bumper sticker, I want government to "stay out of my ovaries." But by wanting the government to regulate third trimester issues is totally going against what I believe otherwise. Hmmm.... very gray indeed.
I actually agree with Mr. Buchannan on this one. Our grandparents' generation had to experience a market crash that devastated everyone, and because of it, my grandparents lived very frugally and ended up with a comfortable life that wasn't beyond their means. More recent generations haven't learned the value of a dollar beyond what it can buy them now; many probably have never even heard of the concept "time value of money". I think many Americans lost respect for the dollar, and now it's coming back to bite them in the rear.
I think it was just a matter of time the market dropped out on us. I'm sure it's far from being over, too. As scary and tragic as it is, it's forcing Americans to look in the mirror and see the mess they made--not being more conservative with their own finances and squandering it away.
Pat Buchannan is an isolationist. He would rather see us build walls to the outside world, then deal with the reality of the situation. That is that we are apart of a global society that is so intertwined, we cannot possibly become protectionist. This is where he and Obama agree, high tariffs and cutting off sources of free trade.
His opinion that we live beyond our means, SPOT ON. We are so addicted to prosperity in this country, that we don't take the time to realize that it is killing us. Avarice, the destruction of the family, obesity, and the disposable, hands-off approach to our own lives is what will destroy us if we don't get it in hand.
From an economic standpoint, I see how and why we've become a globalized world. From a social/ecological/environmental standpoint, I think it's caused a lot of damage and will continue to do so--it's good for business, but not necessarily for people and the environment. I see how it's impossible to not be globalized in this day, but I don't agree with it.
Well, for all of the talk of world peace, Saxy, all that will do that is trade. Trade is what connected civilization for thousands of years. It helped to forge alliances, it helped to bring salt and spices to the Dark Ages in Europe. (It brought us Anime after WWII) It is what helped to build the United States into the moral authority that it is around the world. Globalization is extremely important to the integrity posterity, and prosperity of this country we both love.
The environment takes care of itself. We just need to conserve what we have.
