I had started an ayagaki obi on the takadai, got about a foot done and decided that first, putting the dark color on the bottom layer was a piece of complete idiocy on my part and second, regardless of which color was up, I hated the piece.
So I started the undoing process, got a few inches done and stalled because I had no idea what I would do with the materials.
Last week I figured it out; the dark layer of threads (a blend of two purples) are being turned into a braid and bead necklace in shades of purple and lavendar and the rest of it is going to get overdyed and used for another pattern. The length on the necklace braids isn't critical, so instead of unpicking, I cut them off, refastened them to the kakudai, which goes very fast and started working again. When I get tired of working on the new piece, I go back to the old one and take out a bit more. Very nice feeling all around.

During our recent trip to Lassen Volcanic National Park we drove down the I5 through the Sacramento Valley and very nearly arrived as three puddles of melted goo. It was almost too hot to properly function.

I imagine that under these circumstances even a little bit of rain is welcome to everybody ^__^

We haven't had much luck with our vegetables this year. Usually this time of year I get pelted with zucchini, but this year they have probably all drowned in the cold and torrential downpours that have pretty much made up our summer weather.
