#057 - Scales
Kyuhyun set up his cooking area under the watchful eye of his boy friend Ryeowook. Today Ryeowook decided that Kyuhyun couldn’t possibly mess up the task of scaling and cutting up fish. After Kyuhyun got everything set up, Ryeowook showed him how to do everything; right when he had finished his cell phone rang.
Kyuhyun looked up from the fish to look at Ryeowook. “Who is it?” Kyuhyun whispered.
Ryeowook just held up a finger and said into the phone, “Ok, I’ll be right up. Just calm down.”
Kyuhyun looked at him puzzled.
Ryeowook closed his phone, took off his apron and turned to Kyuhyun. “That was Henry. He is freaking out over something. I didn’t fully hear him, but I’m going to see what’s wrong. You just finish scaling that fish and cutting it open.” Before he headed off, he gave Kyuhyun a peck on the cheek.
Smiling, Kyuhyun got busy with the fish. He had just got done scaling the fish and was about to cut it open, when he heard a cry of anguish from the doorway. He turned to see Donghae staring at him with a look of distress. Kyuhyun spoke up, “Donghae, are you okay?”
Donghae rushed over to the table and looked down. “What are you doing to this poor fish!?”
Kyuhyun looked from him to the fish and said. “I’m getting the fish ready so Wookie can cook it.”
Donghae gasped and made a swipe for it.
Kyuhyun saw his arm moved and moved the fish out of the way. “Donghae?! What the hell is your problem?”
Donghae reached for the fish. “I can’t believe you are doing that to the poor fish. Give it to me.”
Kyuhyun turned, moved to the table and put the fish down. “Donghae, seriously? It’s our dinner.”
Donghae calmly walked up to the table staring at Kyuhyun. He put both his hands on the table, still staring at him.
Kyuhyun was completely confused as to what Donghae’s problem was. They all knew he loved fish, but this was a little weird even for him. Before Kyuhyun could open his mouth to say anything, Donghae flung out his hands and grabbed the plate with the fish.
Donghae moved near the door holding the plate and looking down at it sadly. “Oh the poor thing.” He went to run his hand over it, but jerked his hand back when he touched its smooth surface. “OH MY GOD; what did he do to you?” and threw a dirty look at Kyuhyun.
Kyuhyun looked at him like he was crazy. “Donghae, give me that back. Ryeowook is going to be mad if I don’t finish cutting it. He should be back soon.” He held out his hand for the plate and walked toward Donghae.
Donghae looked at with Kyuhyun with an accusing look. “What did you do to this poor fish? Why is it smooth?”
Kyuhyun sighed, “I got rid of the scales and I was about to cut its head off.” Kyuhyun said in a deadpanned voice, hoping that would shock him enough to stay still.
Donghae’s eyes got wide and he yelled, “You monster!” turned and ran out the room.
Kyuhyun was too stunned by his shout to do nothing but watch him run out. He snapped out of it a minute later and ran after yelling. “Donghae, you nut. Get back here!”
All that could be heard was them yelling at each other as they ran thru the dorm.
“NEVER! You fish scale murderer!”
“Donghae, that makes no sense. GET BACK HERE!”
“No! I’m saving this fish”
“It’s already dead! Just give it back.”
“OH MY GOD, NO! Since I can’t save it, I’m going to bury it.”
Kyuhyun froze at that outburst. He watched as Donghae ran by and went for the front door. He started forward when he heard the door open and yelled. “Donghae, you are insane! That’s dinner. You can’t bury it.” he was so focused on Donghae, and trying to figure out what to tell Ryeowook about all this, that he missed the figure laughing in the shadows.
Yesung watched as Donghae messed around with Kyuhyun. Yesung jumped when he felt arms wrap around his waist. He relaxed when he realized it was Hangeng.
Hangeng put his chin on his shoulder and said, “Saw what happened. You didn’t have anything to do with that, did you? Because you just got back on speaking terms with Ryeowook and I’m sure torturing his boyfriend is not a good start.”
Yesung snickered. “It’s all Donghae; although if I just happen to mention to Donghae that I’ll stop hating him, if he helps me mess around with some people… I’m not to blame for him choosing who he decides to mess with.”
Hangeng snorted. “Uh huh and I’m sure you had nothing to do with Ryeowook being conveniently gone at the time this all happened?”
Yesung shrugged and pulled Hangeng’s arms closer around him. “Of course I didn’t.”
Hangeng just laughed, kissed his cheek, and let go to move toward the common room. “One of these days, Kyuhyun is going to wise up, you know.”
Yesung just scoffed at that thinking ‘nonsense’ and went for the front to see if Donghae actually buried the fish.
