Chapter 14
When I woke up, I realized it was way later then I normally wake up on a Saturday. I groaned as I sat up, rubbing my eyes. I swung my legs out of the bed and searched the floor with my feet for my slippers. Finding them, I shuffled out of bed. My whole body felt like it had fallen out of a window. I headed to the bathroom to take a shower to wake me up.
Clean and semi awake I left my room. Standing in the hallway I tried to think of where I wanted to go. I could go see if Kibum was in his room or I could leave him alone and wait for him to come to me.
Knowing that Kibum didn’t like talking about his problems, I decided to head down to the kitchen to see if there was food left.
Making it down the stairs, I almost made it to the kitchen, when Kangin grabbed my arm in a death grip.
I turned to see Kangin pale and looking frightened; I quirked my eyebrow at him.
He started rambling “Oh my god. Thank god you are awake now. I went to talk to you earlier, but I was told you were still sleeping and to leave you alone.”
I gave him a puzzled look, ‘Someone told him to let me sleep; who would do that?’
Kangin was still rambling, “Sungmin is leaving in like 15 to 20 minutes and I was hoping you would help me. I don’t want to go.”
Realizing what’s going on, I rolled my eyes and tried to pry his hand off my arm. “My god Kangin, SUCK IT UP. It’s just shopping and carrying the bags. It’s not like he’s taking you to a salon or anything”
He just shook his head and muttered, “I just know its going to horrible.”
Try as I might I just couldn’t get his hand off. Suddenly Sungmin appeared all smiles and in a loud pink shirt. I grimaced; I couldn’t believe he could wear those kinds of clothes.
Sungmin grabbed Kangin’s other arm and started pulling. “Come on Youngwoon you promised. We need to go now or we are going to miss some good sales.”
Kangin just shook his faster and clung to me.
Sungmin would pull Kangin and Kangin would pull me. I would have been laughing at Kangin’s scared face if it wasn’t for the death grip on my arm.
Suddenly Sungmin dropped the cheerful act and got close, in my mind too close to simply be whispering in his ear, and whispered something that caused him to pale and let go off my arm.
Figuring it had to do with the shower thing I simply watched as a now cheerful again Sungmin dragged a sulking Kangin out by his arm.
Heechul appeared, snickering, next to me. “God it almost looks like a girlfriend dragging an unwilling boyfriend for shopping”
I looked at him out of the corner of my eye. “I’m hoping that happens soon. He has been coming to complain to me about him for months. Also, keeps saying he’s going to ask Teuk to switch rooms with someone, but never does. We both know that Teuk would do it for him and he knows it too. So, I see this as a way for them to bond. I think Sungmin got tired of waiting and is getting more aggressive about it.”
Heechul snorted “God, I hope so. I think it would do them both good. You might have had Kangin complaining to you, but I had Sungmin complaining to me as we tried to shop. That really grated on my nerves. I’ve been snapping at him more for it.”
Heechul turned and started walking away when I stopped him. “Hey Heechul, why are you not complaining about not being able to shop with him today?”
Heechul turned. “Simple, Siwon told me what was going on and asked me stay today. I figured it was a great way to get some time with him, so I agreed.”
Nodding, I headed to the kitchen. As I entered I saw Hangeng and Zhoumi sitting at the kitchen table.
Smiling at them I sat down across from them. “Good Morning”
Zhoumi snorted “Good Afternoon is more like it.”
I stuck my tongue out at him. Immature, I know, but I just woke up and had to deal with Kangin already so its justified.
I started to get up to get something, but Hangeng jumped up. “Sit. I’ll get it. What do you want? I can make some breakfast or seeing as its noon, how about some lunch. What do you want?”
Sitting back down, I was just staring at him confused. “Huh?”
Hangeng sighed. “I asked, what do you want, breakfast or lunch?”
Feeling like something was up I just said I wanted juice. I watched as Hangeng got me a glass, poured me some juice, sat it in front of me and sat down like it was a normal thing. I turned to Zhoumi seeing if he could shed some light on what the hell was going on.
He just softly laughed and gave me the ‘I’ll tell you later’ look.
Still completely confused and on edge, I just nodded.
5 minutes later Hangeng went up to his room to get his phone. He had forgotten to grab it and only remembered when he reached in his pocket for it.
I watched as he left the kitchen. As soon as I judged him to be gone enough I rounded to the giggling Zhoumi.
“Ok, what’s going on? He was all being to nice and wanting to make me stuff. He even got my juice. I am honestly kind of scared right now.” I stated.
Zhoumi just giggled more and said, “That’s how he is honestly. If you had been up before school the past couple weeks when he was, you would have seen it. He does it to me all the time. When I asked him about he said it’s his way of thanking me for being so nice. He said he loves to cook anyway so it doesn’t bother him. He told me the other day that you have impressed him and that he feels you really do trust him and want to be his friend. So, welcome to the club. He’s only this friendly to me, Heechul, Shindong and now you.”
My eyes widened at that. “So, he’s not going to do anything weird? It’s just his way of showing friendship?”
Zhoumi laughed “No, he isn’t going to do anything weird and yes it’s how he shows it. He’s just a very affectionate person. It’s just that he hasn’t been able to connect with many people.”
I nodded and was about to say something else when Hangeng came back to the kitchen texting something on his phone.
He sat back down and looked at me, “Hey want to do something with me and Zhoumi today? I went up earlier to see if you were awake and ok, but you were out. I didn’t want to wake you up to ask you that.”
I was still in a dazed state from what happened earlier. “Sure, I’ll do something with ya. I had nothing else planned today anyway. Wait, were you the one that told Kangin to leave me alone.”
He looked up and smiled “Yes, he was freaking out in here after I came from your room. I heard him say he had to wake you up so you could fix it, but I told him to let you sleep. What with everything going on I thought you needed it.”
‘Ah, he thought I was exhausted from the thing with Ryeowook. Well it was part of it, but I wasn’t going to say anything about Kibum being a reason too. I just nodded and said ok.
I listened as Zhoumi and Hangeng discussed what they wanted to do. They were arguing over the mall or the park. Zhoumi wanted the mall and Hangeng wanted the park.
No way was I going to the mall with Kangin and Sungmin there, so I spoke up. “Actually, the park sounds good.”
Hangeng turned from me to look at Zhoumi with triumphed eyes “HA! Two against one, park it is.”
As we got up to get our stuff, I heard Zhoumi mumbling under his breath something about fairness, but I couldn’t hear it right. Grabbing our shoes went headed to the park.
We ended up spending hours at the park. By the time we headed back it was getting dark and I still hadn’t heard from Kibum. After the fun I had, I couldn’t bring myself to worry about it. He said he would tell me and I believed him.
Walking back with Zhoumi and Hangeng, we were talking about the time we spent there. I was surprised at how much fun I had with them. It brought back memories from a couple years ago of spending time with my friends, growing up; it felt like I was closer to them now.
We had just done random things; played Frisbee, soccer, and attempted basketball. We easily gave up on basketball after I almost started a fight with the other boys, by misjudging a throw and hitting one of them with the ball. We ended up just buying hotdogs and talking for at least an hour and a half.
I was pleasantly exhausted by the time we were getting back. I told Zhoumi and Hangeng that I was heading up to my room and that we would have to do it again because it had been fun. Not once did I think of Ryeowook and I knew that was what Hangeng was trying to do. He didn’t let me sit still long enough to think of anything period and I was thankful.
Reaching my room, all I did was change into a tank and sweats; then I proceeded to get reacquainted with my bed. I was just starting to get comfortable, when a knock jarred me back to fully awake.
“What?” I hoped I sounded upset.
Kangin popped his head in. “Do you have a couple minutes?”
Sighing, I sat up and beckoned him in. I was going to have to remember to start locking my door. Although I knew I never would. I always wanted to be available for my friends.
Kangin sat on the bed across from me; he looked worn out.
I smirked. “So, did you have fun today?”
He groaned and flopped back, staring at the ceiling. “At first I hated it.”
“At first?” I was surprised, I thought it would take longer for Kangin to admit anything.
He continued, “Yea at first. You remember how I would always complain about all the clothes he would just buy to then turn around and ship most of them home?”
“Yes”, I was wondering where this was going.
“Well, it turns out when he goes shopping most of what he buys, it’s for his sisters.” Kangin answered.
“His sisters?” I said.
“Yep, apparently he’s from a place that doesn’t have too many nice shops. So, his sisters send him money during the week from their jobs or chores and on the weekends he shops for them. I never really paid attention to the clothes he threw around the room; all I saw was pink. I also found out he has two older sisters and one younger sister.” He sat back up finishing that.
I just looked at him “Wow. I thought he just bought a lot for himself.”
Kangin snorted. “Don’t get me wrong. He did buy a lot for himself today. I was just saying that’s why he always had so much.”
I laughed. “So, that’s all you got today was clothes and stuff for his sisters?”
Kangin shook his head. “No. Today I got lucky. His sisters didn’t really want anything this weekend. So, it was clothes shopping for him and he lied to me; I was not just the bag boy.”
I look at him puzzled “You weren’t” I wasn’t going to lie; Kangin’s suffering was amusement for me. After all the headaches he has given me, it’s his turn to suffer.
He shook his head as a negative, “Nope. He apparently brought me to help him pick out clothes. For three hours, we went from shop to shop getting clothes and OH NO; he couldn’t just go in, grab something and leave. He had to try them on and he expected me to help him pick out what looked good on him.”
I had the image of Kangin holding Sungmin’s purse and Sungmin coming out and modeling the dresses like my parents used to do. I couldn’t hold in my laughter any more and collapsed on my bed laughing.
Kangin reached a hand over and smacked me on the leg. “Not funny. The first hour was horrible. I didn’t want to do that so, I would bitch and whine like you said, hoping it would hurry him up. It did no good. He would just argue with me and it ended up taking twice as long. After the first hour, I was getting tired. So, instead of snapping at him when he tried on a shirt that looked just like something from the other store he tried on and didn’t decided not to get, I would just calmly talk to him. Apparently that’s all he wanted and the next two hours went by fast. Although I still had to carry everything.” he said the last part pouting.
I laughed during all that. I was glad Sungmin was taking an interest. From what Kangin was saying he challenged him; didn’t just listen to the big mean man barking orders. I believed that is what Kangin needed. “Well it sounded like it was an eye opener for you. Are you going to do it again?”
Kangin stood up. “No.”
I snickered. I had an idea Sungmin was going to get him to do it again somehow. Maybe I should let some more things slip from our childhood that he could use to blackmail him with.
Kangin sighed. “Today wore me out. I’m heading to bed. I just thought I would come tell you want happened today.” and headed for the door.
I nodded, “Goodnight.” as he closed the door.
I got under the covers this time. I expected I would be awake a couple more minutes thinking about stuff but it seemed I was more tired then I thought. No sooner then my head hit the pillow and I closed my eyes, I was out.
